Viscose top and silk pants, Missoni

Gray pinstrip three-piece suit, Tuleh

Gray Tweed Suit, Armani

Japanese Print Button Down, Diesel

Gold Bow Dress, Alexander McQueen
Business professionals probably have the hardest time mixing fashion with work. Men have it easy…they just get a few great suits and only have to worry about their tie. Women, on the other hand, are either forced to look drab or get really creative with scarves and handbags.
Never fear HR managers of the world! This spring offers some really sexy alternatives for the working woman.
Whether you are a bank teller or a CEO, hot pantsuits and Eastern kimono looks are back with a vengeance. Softer lines and prettier fabrics on pantsuits give this otherwise masculine look a feminine edge. And what’s not to love about kimono’s? Flattering on nearly everyone, the silk makes them fancy and the prints make them fun.
Our pick is the silk pantsuit from Missoni…the best of both worlds, really! And that gold dress from Alexander McQueen? After work cocktails, of course.

Aisha Tyler in Bill Blass
If these tulip skirts are supposed to be all the rage, why do they look awful on everyone? Even Aisha Tyler, who is svelte and athletic, probably shouldn’t be wearing this skirt. Her tie up wedges don’t give her legs any length either for an overall unflattering look.
Naomi Watts, Oscars 2006
The shrinking violet look was big at this years Oscars, with stars like Naomi Watts and Kiera Knightly opting for floral frocks. No, not floral patterns, but rusched sateen and gauze that looks like a 3D flower.
So are florals overrated, or the hottest new thing? Is there someone out there who has successfully worn a flouncy tulip skirt without adding 20 pounds to their frame? Let us know!

Ahh…the minimalist’s life
If your closet looks anything like mine, then you probably have shoes piled on the floor, purses piled on the top shelf, and tons of clothes crammed on the rack. If your are also like me, then you are probably a shopaholic, and have way more stuff than you could ever need.
Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate our closets.
One of the best new fashion ideas is closet shopping…no, not buying a new closet, but looking in your own closet before you go out and buy the newest trends. Even if you don’t find anything, a little spring cleaning can go a long way. There may be something to say about having only five great bags and only five great pairs of shoes instead of, like, 50.
Closet shopping is a great way to not only fully realize what you have, but to make a few bucks in the process.
Remember that Louis Vuitton bag that you had to have last year, but is now collecting dust? Put it to work! There are a number of “bag-swap” websites where you can loan your designer or vintage bags in exchange for other bags or cash.
If your maternity clothes are still lingering in your closet on your baby’s first birthday, it’s either time to stash them in a storage container or sell them. Maternity clothes are always a hot commodity in on-line auctions and at consignment shops…you may be surprised at how much cash you can rake in!
There’s also a great sense of do-gooder feeling when you donate of out of style or ill-fitting clothes to charity…plus it free’s up space for new goodies!
What’s your best closet find or fashion re-sale story? Mine was finding my grandmother’s giant vintage Italian leather bag in the back of my closet…it became an excellent and chic bookbag for school! Share your tips and let the closet shopping begin!

Espionage Bag, $120.00

Kahri Pop Rock Wrap Top, $84.00

Leaf Me Alone Necklace from reimagined, $145
For Angelina Jolie, it’s head-to-toe jet setter black. For Gwen Stefani, it’s red, red lips. For Brittany Spears, it’s that silly straw hat. And for Jessica Simpson, it’s bags, bags and more hot bags.
What’s your signature style?
Everyone has something about the way that they present themselves that stands out. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. Either way, whether you realize it or not, you are sending a message out to the world about yourself through fashion–so you better make it a good one!
Whether it is a turban (a la Simone de Beauvoir or Erykah Badu), crazy shoes (a la Imelda Marcos) or a Carry Bradshaw giant flower pin, find a style you really love and claim it!
Who knows? Just because you aren’t famous doesn’t mean you can’t become a fashion icon. If it weren’t for Jackie O, huge framed sunglasses still might not be in today.
For this season, may we suggest: find a style that matches your personality…if you are a little “earthy” then go with something made of earth elements, like a giant natural stone pendant. If you are artsy, go for wild t-shirts that shows off your artistic side. If your style is more urban-chic, then definitely find a hot bag that no one else has and make it your own.

Katie Holmes keepin’ it short in flats

Calvin Klein “Cache” studded flat, $100

“Mia” Peep toe wedge, Arturo Chiang, $99

Gold Peep Toe Flats, Arturo Chiang $98
Leading ladies are getting taller, and the men in their lives are getting shorter…hence, the Spring revival of flats! Still going strong, flats have made a huge impact in the fashion world, and not just with celebrities. While heels are always going to be far more glamorous, lets face it…flats are way more comfortable. And, if you pick the right pair (we’re not talking canvas Keds here) they can look just as glam and fabulous.
Our favorite styles for the spring are the peep-toe variety…kind of like a classier take on sandals. You can still show off your pedicure, without the embarrasment of flip flops. If you still feel like you need the heighth that heels provide, try some equally cute peep toe wedges. Unlike heels, they provide a little more support and all the style.
My biggest flat faux pas? Moccassins. I was over them before they began, and lets just talk about the colors and designs. Sequined teal mocassins? I don’t think so. How do you feel about flats? Classy or sloppy?

Kirsten Dunst and BFF designer, Erin Fetherston

Fetherston Paris runway collection
Typically, I am not one to rag on a celebrity’s entire style. However, I think that Kirsten Dunst is one of the worst dressed out there. I’m sure her clothes are all designer label, and individually, some of her pieces are cute. In general though, she just comes across as sloppy to me.
Case in point…the only way anyone would want to hire her to represent their line would be if they felt like they had to. Recently, Dunst has filmed a seven minute long fashion film for designer friend Erin Fetherston, which debuted this weekend. Originally from San Fransisco, Fetherston is becoming a big deal in Paris. Her stuff is pretty cute and whimsical, so I hope that Dunst doesn’t jinx her.
The fashion film, as it is being called, features Dunst and others as school girls on a lunch break who discover a chest full of beautiful clothes. Surprise…it’s Featherston’s fall 2006 collection! Filmed in black and white in LA, Dunst apparently took time out of her hectic Spiderman III schedule to make the film for her friend.
So what do you think…is Fetherston on to something using Dunst as the face for her line, or is it a tragic mistake?

Cloe Dao, Project Runway Winner!

Chloe Dao’s winning Fall 2006 collection
So we all know by now that Chloe Dao is the official Project Runway winner, and was up against fierce competition like Santino Rice. Personally, I liked Rice’s stuff better, but what do I know? I’m honestly a little shocked…his designs and fabrics were really beautiful, but obviously not as innovative as Dao’s.
The question now is…will her line live on? Could Dao gain American Idol type notoriety like Kelley Clarkson, or will she just fade into the background? Will be seeing her frocks in glossy mags for the next year, or forever? Only time will tell.
What did you think about the whole Project Runway business? I honestly didn’t follow it too much, but as reality gameshow contests go, I thought this was a pretty good (albeit, possibly stolen) idea.
