Top 5 Celebrity Weddings of Our Time!

Posted on 18 October 2007 by Wendy O

Staying in tune with my wedding obsession, I bring you my top 5 celebrity weddings of our time! And by our time, I mean within the last twenty years or so…in no particular order, I give you my favorite A-list nuptials:

pittaniston.jpg

#1 Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, 2000 (source)

Hollywood’s golden couple tied the knot out of the spotlight and left us one measly photo to ogle over for years to come…but what a great photo it is! Jen’s hair is casual and loose and her gown and veil are simple, yet chic. Although the relationship was ill-fated, they were possibly the prettiest bride and groom in recent memory to walk down the aisle.

celine-dion.jpg

#2 Celine Dion and Rene Angelil, 1994 (source)

And their love will go on…the greatest singer…in the world! (to quote an SNL skit) wed her manager Rene Angelil in an elaborate ceremony in Montreal and the world stopped for a moment. How could they not, look at that fabulous headpiece…only the ultimate Diva could pull that thing off.

gwen-and-gavin.jpg

#3 Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, 2002 (source)

Confession: There are two bands that I loved in the 9th grade like no other; one was “Bush” and the other was “No Doubt.” I wanted to make out with Gavin Rossdale and go shopping with Gwen Stefani. And wouldn’t you know it, the two went and hooked up on me. Sigh. Gwen gets double bridal snaps from me for her pink dress by my fave designer John Galliano. Bravo!

cruise-holmes.jpg

#4 Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, 2006 (source)

You didn’t think that the TomKat wedding would slip by this one, did you? They make this list for various reasons, such Armani outfitting their entire wedding as well as couch jumping, Scientology scandals and a romantic Italian wedding locale.

britneyh.jpg

#5 Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, 2004 (source)

Surprise! Britney got hitched y’all, for real…for the second time in one year. With all the recent scandal surrounding Brit Brit, I bet you almost forgot about hubby #1, a certain Jason Alexander, huh? Yeah, Britney makes our top 5 celeb wedding list because she managed to make her wedding to K-Fed a surprise, and because this time around she traded in the baseball cap for a strapless Monique Lhuillier.

What’s your favorite celebrity wedding of all time? If it isn’t listed here, let us know!

Do-It-Yourself Wedding and Bridal Gear: How-to Make a Birdcage Veil

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Wendy O

birdcage-veil-2.jpg

My Do-it-Yourself Birdcage Veil; Ostrich Feather Fascinator, $3.00, Russian Netting, $7.00, DIY bragging rights=Priceless

Whether you were once a bride, are planning a wedding now or think there may be one in your future one day, you have to appreciate DIY bridal wear. While there are certain things, like your wedding dress or wedding cake, that you may want to leave to the professionals for your big day, there is plenty you can do for yourself to save some marital moolah.

My latest creation was this super cute birdcage veil…I’m having an off-beat wedding and my dress is going to be black, so you can imagine that finding a matching veil was hard anyway. Birdcage veils are really starting to pick up popularity amongst “indie” brides or brides looking for a non-traditional look and are much less cumbersome than their tulle sisters.

If you like the look, but don’t know a glue gun from bedazzler, then www.birdcageveils.com has an excellent selection to choose from…check it out before you say “I DO!”

How To Wear Black Tights, Stockings and Hosiery

Posted on 15 October 2007 by Wendy O

I just love the fall…knee high boots are back in fashion, a crisp earthy fragrance is in the air and celebs are packing away their leggings for the season. But short dresses still reign supreme in this sorta chilly, but not yet freezing weather…what’s a fashionista to do? The answer: black tights.

I used to hate tights…they reminded me of my days in ballet class, hiking them up over my belly and barely being able to breathe. Now I appreciate them for their blemish and bulge reducing qualities. If your summer tan has begun to fade, but you still want to show off some shapely gams, consider black tights for your fall look. Here are a few ways to wear them:

Edgy

gwyneth.jpg

Gwyneth Paltrow (source)

Gwyneth looks every bit the part of a rockers wife/hip actress in her head to toe black ensemble. Her black tights keep this dark look from being broken up and adds extra drama.

Trendy:

hilary-duff.jpg

Hilary Duff (source)

Paired with a cute silk pattern dress and knee high boots, Duff looks cute and trendy in her black tights. They keep this look fresh and young, but modest at the same time. No risk of flashing any naughties with these things on…

Classy:

cate-blanchett.jpg

Cate Blanchett (source)

Like with Gwyneth’s look, Cate keeps her black ensemble going by pairing her outfit with black stockings. Black stockings make a formal dress look even more formal, but be wary of what color you pair it with: for an effective and classy look, only pair black stockings or tights with earth toned or muted formal wear.

If you are looking for an inexpensive and effective way to punch up your fall look, head to the local drug store for this must have accessory.

How To: Protect Your Shoes (Rubber Soles) [Shopaholics Anonymous]

shopaholics1.gif

Getting your shoes rubber-soled will help them last longer and in some cases, look nicer (from the bottom, of course). When a shoe peddler rubber-soles your shoes, they’ll apply a thin layer of sole material to the bottom of your shoe to prevent the original shoe part from getting scuffed or wearing down. read entire story

America’s Most Smartest Models

Posted on 11 October 2007 by Wendy O

smart-model1.jpg

Throughout the ages, beauty has gotten a bad wrap as being synonymous with stupidity…a trend which has carried over into the modeling world. Just look at movies like “Zoolander” to see every dumb model stereotype on display (”Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!”).

America’s Most Smartest Model is out to prove that beauty and brains can, and do, go together in the modeling industry. In this reality/game show, models compete to test their knowledge in an effort to find out who the “Most Smartest” model really is.

Co-hosted by Ben Stein and fashion veteran Mary Alice Stephenson, this show is a must see for beauty buffs and fashionista’s alike. If you constantly find yourself Tivo-ing “America’s Next Top Model” or “Project Runway,” then make sure to add this one to your list too.

Watch Vh-1 every Sunday as fourteen models (7 men and 7 women) face off for the crown of “Most Smartest” model. Check out the interview with Mary Alice Stephenson here to see why she may be the new Miss Tyra on the fashion block.

My favorite must read of the day fashion blog Chic Diaries wrote a great post: Sexy Glam Appearance in Corset

corset.jpg

A corset, tends to be a very popular thing to wear. It can be worn because of two reasons - medical or in order to obtain a desirable shape of your waist. Nowadays, corset can be just a decorative detail, fashionable trend (such corsets just possess the shape of a corset, but have nothing in common with it) but here we will talk about corsets, real corsets.
