Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz

Sources close to singer/actress Ashlee Simpson Wentz say that she is pregnant again, six months after the birth of her son Bronx Mowgli.

True or not, Simpson has been spending much of her time filming a new version of the 90s show Melrose Place for network CW. Simpson has been cast to play a naïve-looking small town girl named Violet Foster who is trying to make it in Los Angeles. Seven years ago Simpson had a role on WB’s long-running drama 7th Heaven.

People.com recently interviewed the cast of the new Melrose Place, which includes: Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Shaun Sipos, Michael Rady, Jessica Lucas, Stephanie Jacobsen, Collin Egglsefield, Katie Cassidy, and Simpson. Simpson described her character as “the new girl” who has just moved in and is shy at first. Later in the season she shows her more manipulative side.

Simpson purposely looked for a television job because of the steadier nature of the work will allow her more time to be close to little Bronx. Melrose Place films in Los Angeles, where she lives. She and husband Pete Wentz, of the band Fallout Boy, appeared in CSI:NY in March as a criminal couple involved in a bad drug deal.

Kylie Minogue

Gorgeous Spanish model Andres Velencoso has proposed to Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue, and she has accepted, according to reports from Australia. The two met in Paris last year and rapidly became inseparable. The signs were there: at the Cannes Film Festival last week, Minogue told reporters, “I’m happier with him than I have ever been before, you never know he could be the one. 
 
”He is great, who knows what the future holds but hopefully things will work out.”

Kylie and her beau have been looking for a house in Tossa Del Mar, which is close to Barcelona.

In other Kylie/Cannes news, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce of famed Italian design house Dolce&Gabbana had a party last Friday themed “Fabulous in Cannes,” to which the petite songstress went and had a great time, wearing a gorgeous hot pink Dolce&Gabbana bustier dress.

Other celebrities in attendance included models Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer, and all the guests were issued movie star sunglasses on arrival at the Baoli club.

Kylie arrived fashionably late, having just given a performance at the VIP Club. Like the other stardusted celebs, she eventually made her way to the awesome mirrored dance floor to get down with such people as Paz de la Huerta and Portia Freeman.

Kate Hudson takes a break during the filming of “The Killer inside me” in Oklahoma City. Her new hair style must match the 50’s theme thriller book.

Kate Hudson has been seen around Manhattan having drinks and dinner with Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, and she’s also been seen watching the baseball star play at Yankee Stadium in recent days. The two met at the re-opening of the Miami Beach hotel Fontainebleau late last year. After last week’s win over the Minnesota Twins, Kate and A-Rod were together at one of his favorite hangouts, the Mustang Grill, a Mexican restaurant on Second Avenue.

A server confirmed that the two were there together, but had no comment about any possible lip wrestling going on. The Mustang’s owner Rob Olsen said that Kate and Alex were seated in a private room next to the main dining room, and that they left around 1 a.m. after having dinner and drinks. “He’s here a couple times a week. He comes with his buddies after the game,” said Olsen.

The other big news about Kate Hudson is that she has dyed her blonde hair brown for a movie role. The brunette look is “a huge departure from her signature look,” according to People magazine’s Style News Now.

Hudson is busy shooting The Killer Inside Me in Oklahoma City, where she was “nearly unrecognizable” according to The Daily Mail. The movie is a thriller set in the 1950s, and Hudson plays Amy Stanton, the girlfriend of a sociopathic murderer who also happens to be a Texas sheriff, played by Casey Affleck. Jessica Alba stars as a prostitute. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2010.

Jessica Biel, formerly from long-running TV series 7th Heaven, is having quite a career moment right now. Oh yeah, and she’s recently moved in with musician/actor Justin Timberlake. But in a recent interview with Allure magazine, she says, “I have no idea if I want to get married. I have a lot to do, career-wise.” She describes herself as “very ambitious.”

The ambition is paying off in better movie roles like in the new movie Easy Virtue, based on a play by Noel Coward. The only American in the cast, Biel plays the new wife of proper English gentleman John Whittaker, played by Ben Barnes, and is drawing very good reviews.

Her character, Larita, is a modern American woman in the post-World War I era who drives a race car, smokes cigarettes, and generally causes all manner of scandal around her. Kristen Scott-Thomas plays her mother-in-law, with a shrewdness that matches Larita’s.

The movie is directed by Stephen Elliott, perhaps best known for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. In Easy Virtue, he gives us big band versions of songs like Tom Jones’ “Sex Bomb” So it’s no overly-serious award chasing period piece.

“I looked at a lot of old Katherine Hepburn movies for that kill ‘em with a smile, fantastic, witty, dry delivery,” said Biel in an interview with MTV. Apparently the hard work paid off well, because reviews of Easy Virtue are glowing.
