It appears that underdog Blake Lively, the star of Gossip Girl, has zoomed past competition that included Jennifer Garner, Diane Kruger, Kerri Russell, and Eva Green to land the part of Carol Ferris, female lead in the upcoming Green Lantern movie. Ryan Reynolds, spousal unit of Scarlett Johansson, is playing Hal Jordan, who becomes the Green Lantern, who wields a ring that gives him super powers.
The role is easily the biggest of Lively’s career, since Green Lantern is being made to appeal to the young male comic-loving demographic that drops a lot of money at the cinema every year. Her work to date has pretty much been lots of chick-flick and chick-TV roles.
In the movie, Ferris runs an aerospace company and hires Hal Jordan as a pilot to work there. They become love interests. Ferris acquires some of her very own special powers from an alien race, ensuring that a successful box office will lead to lots of sequels.
Lively has appeared in both of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies, as well as one titled New York, I Love You, and Accepted. Reynolds is probably best known for his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the late 1990s he starred on television as Michael “Berg” Bergen in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl.

Blake Lively act in a comic-based movie? I don’t think it’s going to work. The outcome is pretty unquestionable. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
