The La Perla lingerie show during New York Fashion Week took place Thursday with the theme “Film Noir.” Indeed, many of the models were wearing their hair in shiny, wavy Veronica Lake styles to go with the lingerie that mostly looked like the elegant and feminine stuff of Old Hollywood. Many of the pieces were black, lots had lace, and all were ridiculously sexy and impractical. In other words, the stuff that every woman dreams about having tucked away in a special drawer for special occasions like Valentine’s Day.
Having done a lot of swimwear in the 70s and 80s, La Perla seems to be concentrating on the lingerie for the last decade or so, and it’s no wonder why. With stockings, garters, structured bras, lacy panties, sultry bed jackets galore, somehow La Perla even made a onezie-type garment look sexy with a draped halter-like top.
Since 2008, La Perla has gone quite upscale with some of its pieces, weaving gold fibers into items, and creating styles that are imaginative, original, and beautiful. The 2010 collection just presented was no exception and no disappointment.
