Rachel Roy the other day presented her collection for Fall / Winter 2010, and in the collection you could see influences of her Egyptian heritage in the gold metallic pieces and even in the clothes that looked work-perfect. The effect was opulent and upscale. As for non-work clothes, a silver, pearl-encrusted gown and a crocheted gold dress showed the audience how shimmer and sparkle are supposed to work.

While there were some menswear influences, the balance clearly stayed on the feminine side, even with the structured suits, which did sophistication at its finest and in some rich blues and reds that haven’t been seen on runways (or on people) for quite some time. Along with the streamlined contours of her clothes, the effect was eye-catching. For evening, a silver cable turtleneck with a long jacquard skirt looked just the thing for a cold weather formal setting: confident, chic, and perhaps coincidentally, warm. In a New York winter that’s been rather harsh, that definitely counts for something this year.
