The advertising executive new label, Nycked – a play on the initials N.Y.C. (New York City) – will launch with a line of women’s swimsuits.
The new designer has not consulted Marc on the project and is determined to make it on his own. He explained: “Relationships are hard enough without mixing business into them. I don’t advise mixing the personal and professional.
The collection – inspired by the “gritty aesthetic” of New York – will be a collaboration with jewelry designer Jules Kim. The pair both agreed they wanted to get away from traditional poolside collections which often feature florals, palm trees and bright colors.
Lorenzo said of his new collection: “We saw an opportunity in the marketplace for something cooler and more downtown. Swim seems to be
dominated by a Los Angeles aesthetic and our collection brings a New York attitude to it.”
The pieces will be adorned with sequins, bow, corset lacing and lace in key colors: black, white and red.
The brand’s logo is a geometric bat based on a Japanese origami design.
Martone added: “Swim in part of my Brazilian heritage. Swimwear is considered real fashion there. When Brazilians go on vacation for four days, they bring at least four different swimsuits.”
The collection will be launched in July and in trendy swim and speciality stores as well as some major chains in November. Each piece will cost between $120 to $130.
