She’s been a fashion star for decades, but Madonna doesn’t own the designation “Material Girl,” despite her 80s hit song with that title, according to a company called L.A. Triumph. Triumph has been selling fashion dresses and other clothes under the brand name “Material Girl” since 1997, and they contend that Madonna and her new company do not have the right to trade under the same brand name.
The new fashion industry line, which will be sold at Macy’s, is, according to Madonna and Carlos Leon, father of her 13-year-old-daughter Lourdes, almost entirely the work of Lourdes rather than her famous mother. “She’s into different cultures and brings that into her style,” said Leon. Madonna’s representatives haven’t commented about the lawsuit yet.
