Menswear for women is a big trend this winter. This time around, the look is more Annie Hall than Working Girl, with a laid back, somewhat ironic style accessorized with distinctly girly touches. Trousers, vests, blazers, and even loosely fitted neckties have been seen on runways and on celebrities like Leighton Meester, Anna Lynne McCord, and Wynona ryder.
The look is empowering without appearing as if you’re in drag. You want the lines to be clean and simple, and the pieces should fit perfectly. The look of menswear inspired pieces combined with feminine touches like long, loose hair and frankly feminine shoes, jewelry, and bags has the effect of emphasizing the wearer’s femininity and looking sophisticated as well.
What you don’t want to do is choose boxy silhouettes that hide your figure. Even the perennially popular “boyfriend blazer” should have shoulders that align with your own. And you should feel free to accent dark or neutral menswear pieces with shots of color in your accessories.
