There’s no question that Diane von Furstenberg is a legend and an icon in the fashion industry. It’s no mystery why her influence has persisted over the decades – her designs reflect feminine strength without foregoing beauty and figure flattery. Her ready to wear collection for Fall 2011 showed Ms. Von Furstenberg’s strength as a designer and her latest direction in design. She opened and closed the show with her famous wrap designs, which were modified to look new and fresh.
Favorites include a bold wrap dress in a large, black and white graphic print that gives a nod to 80s workplace fashion without being a parody.
A black, belted jumpsuit featured netting down the front, for a daring look – something you might imagine its designer wearing at Studio 54 back in the day. A black and white belted jumpsuit in a smaller version of the dress graphic had a fluid, easy look that was both smart and fresh.
Her bright red blouson-top drop waist dress was both comfortable looking and daring, both in its color and its deep, plunging neckline.
Finally, a brilliant blue floor-length wrap dress in a fabric with a shiny, liquid drape to it featured generous kimono-style sleeves and tons of sophistication.
