Friday is the day that the second installment in the Twilight movie trilogy, New Moon, opens, and teenage girls worldwide are giddy with anticipation. Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen in the movies, has been the flavor of the week all year for his portrayal as the darkly handsome vampire in the wildly popular movie adaptations of the equally popular books. For the two or three of you who don’t know, Edward Cullen is the vampire who falls in love with human Bella (played by Kristin Stewart) in the fantasy romance series.

At first, readers were shocked, shocked! when Pattinson was cast in the movie. He had been in a couple of lesser known films, and had a small part as Cedric Digory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but other than that, he was an unknown quantity. Of course, all that has changed now, and he’s swarmed by girls (and sometimes women who are old enough to know better) wherever he goes.

He treads the water of mega-stardom warily, however, telling Canada’s National Post, “If someone records what you’re saying, you’re always vulnerable to so many people, so you’ve always got to be watching your back a little bit. More people read the gossip sites than actually watch the movies, so you’re always in somebody else’s hands.”

Ashlee and Jessica Simpson have been on a sort of roller coaster ride in 2009. Ashlee’s acting drew heavy criticism when she appeared in 12 episodes of nighttime soap Melrose Place. Jessica’s weight was constantly scrutinized, and she went through a painful breakup with Tony Romo. Then her beloved dog disappeared. It just wasn’t Jessica’s year. Of the two, Ashlee probably came through 2009 less scarred by celebrity, but in the world of celebrity gossip, all that can change in an instant.

But through it all, Ashlee and Jessica have been able to count on each other, as Ashlee recently told People magazine.

Ashlee, who appears on the December cover of Women’s Health, defended her sister against judgmental people, saying, “My sister has an incredible body. I feel sorry for anyone who would judge her, because she’s one sexy lady.” She also referred to the people who act as the weight police as “disgusting.”

Earlier this year, Jessica defended Ashlee against those who criticized her acting ability in Melrose Place, saying that the scripts she was given were “crap.”

Ashlee, in addition to being a wife and mother, is set to star as Roxy in Chicago this December. It will be her Broadway debut.

Sienna Miller

Miller, 27, and Law, 36, are both appearing on Broadway right now. She plays the title role in After Miss Julie, and he stars as Hamlet in the Shakespeare classic.

The olive branch apparently went out from Miller when she invited Law to her dog Bess’s birthday party. Law is the one who gave Miller the dog as a birthday present. The two have reportedly met up a few times in New York City and have got along well. They are, however, keeping everything as quiet as possible because of the public nature of their break-up a few years ago. That split was caused by Law’s affair with his children’s nanny. At the time, the two were engaged. But even though the engagement was cancelled, Miller kept the ring he gave her and still wears it.

One way the two have been able to keep things under cover in New York is with the help of Jonny Lee Miller (no relation to Sienna), who co-stars in After Miss Julie and who is one of Law’s best friends. His role is to throw the paparazzi off track by escorting Sienna in public to where Law is staying. Law and Miss Miller are mostly left alone in New York as long as the paparazzi don’t find them.

Pamela Anderson

Former Baywatch star had a launch party for her new fragrance last week. There are actually two versions of the fragrance, one called Malibu, and the other called Malibu Night. The launch party was in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Among the stars in attendance was Dennis Rodman.

The fragrances came about as a partnership with International Beauty Brands, and the release party took place at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

She told People magazine, “Both fragrances are fresh, chic and luxurious — and totally inspired by the Malibu surf lifestyle that I love.” And she also emphasized affordability: both products will be available in drugstores. “My dream is for every woman to be able to go to her favorite drug store and buy an affordable fragrance which will make her feel sexy,” she said.

Anderson said that during the development of the fragrance, she was assured that all the ingredients were cruelty free, and that a part of the proceeds from sale of the scents will go to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a favorite charity of hers.

Malibu contains notes of white florals and wild berries with a bit of vanilla. Malibu Night combines fragrances of pomegranate, fresh vanilla and violet. The 1.7 ounce spray retails for $39.00 while the 3.4 ounce spray goes for $49. Malibu and Malibu Night should be hitting drugstores any time now.

The Real Housewives of Orange County returned to television Thursday night for its fifth season, and it looks like there will be no shortage of drama in the new season. Marriages will hit the rocks, new housewives will clash with veterans of past seasons, and feuds will bubble over.

Gretchen Rossi, a not-exactly housewife who had toruble getting along with Tamra Barney in season four told E! Online “I’m gonna let her know that the way I was treated last year wasn’t right.”

Meanwhile, Tamra’s marriage appears to be somewhat more strained this season, which does little for her opinion of Gretchen, whom she refers to as a hooker.

One thing that probably plays in Gretchen’s favor is that she’s no longer the new girl on the posh, gated block. Alexis Bellino joins the fray and becomes friends with Gretchen. Vicki Gunvlason, the alpha dog in this pack, does not take to the newcomer, which is hardly surprising.

In other news, Jeana Keough is out after the first few episodes this season. She apparently went through a financial slump and had a falling out with former best friend Vicki over a financial matter. This season will certainly not be boring.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

The cast of the upcoming New Moon flick is busy on a press junket, and E! television was able to ask her a question burning in everyone’s mind: Would she work with her castmates – particularly Robert Pattinson – again outside the Twilight film franchise?

The answer: Yes. “Literally…every single one of them,” she told E!

While there are fans complaining of overexposure on the part of the stars of the Twilight films, there is no denying that Stewart is different from the typical Hollywood starlet, with her dark fashion sense and understated looks. Girlfriend even had her hair cut in an 80’s mullet to play Joan Jett in a recent movie, and she’s bravely growing it out as a nation watches. At the press conference where E! caught up with Stewart, she was wearing a black blazer with a quirky, dark tee underneath – a look that is becoming a signature for her.

Meanwhile, the countdown to the November 20 premiere of New Moon has already begun, with cast scattered around the globe attending red carpet events. There’s no doubt that the American premiere will be a huge event, and the movie itself is expected to break box office records.

Camilla Belle

At the debut of the futuristic dystopian flick 2012, Camilla bravely donned an Alexander McQueen creation from his Spring 2010 collection, which premiered in Paris a few weeks ago. The entire Alexander McQueen collection featured a futuristic look and reptilian themed prints.

Belle’s dress was a short dress with a puff-ball skirt and gem trim on the sleeves. She wisely accessorized this attention-grabber of a dress with a minimal theme in mind. A simple, bangle, plain earrings, and nude platform heels ensured that accessories would not compete with the dress. It would be easy to overdo it with chains or diamonds or “look-at-me” shoes.

Also in attendance at the movie premiere was American Idol season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert. The soundtrack to the movie features his song “Time for Miracles.” Critics describe the song as “perfect” for the movie in which the world faces a huge cataclysmic event and those left have to fight for survival.

Written by Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser, the movie’s cast includes John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Thandie Newton. Woody Harrelson and Danny Glover are also included in the cast of thousands. The film premiered November 4 in Los Angleles. This week it is scheduled for release in Belgium, France, and the UK.

Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga have been named the latest faces of the MAC AIDS Fund, reports today’s Women’s Wear Daily. The newest campaign, From Our Lips, will break on February 25.  MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick and Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick will launch in North America on March 18 and will go global after, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the MAC AIDS Fund.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan’s father, apparently unhappy at the lack of attention he’s been getting in the press, released an audio recording of a phone conversation under the guise of being concerned about his daughter’s sometimes out-of-control life. The tape was released to Radar Online and purportedly revealed that mom Dina Lohan was punched and kicked out of the car when she tried to intervene last year and get Lindsay to go to rehab.

Another call published this week supposedly has Lindsay sobbing and saying, “No one cares about me.”

Lawyers have been called, and Lohan has taken to Twitter to express her feelings on the matter, tweeting “Good news is, I haven’t called him many times @all-so it will end sooner rather than later!!! Lol”

Another tweet said, “Its so sad that I even have to share this w/everyone, but I haven’t had a real relationship w/Michael Sr. in years. That is the truth.”

The 23-year-old actress referred on Twitter to her dad as a “lunatic,” and has reportedly been considering getting a restraining order against him.

Papa Lohan told People that he is simply worried about his daughter’s battle with addiction. “Regardless of what people say to me, Lindsay is my first concern,” he told the magazine.
