Jennifer Aniston Causes Hearts to Race on Red Carpet

Posted on 16 February 2010 by Angelique

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - PRESS ROOM

Here’s an actual quote from Us Magazine: “Jennifer Aniston showed off her toned and tanned leg in a Valentino gown at Sunday night’s Golden Globe awards — just a few months after Angelina Jolie rocked a thigh-baring Versace Atelier frock in Cannes.”

In other words, mere months after Aniston’s ex’s squeeze Angelina Jolie wore a peachy Versace dress with a slit up the right leg at the Cannes Film Festival, Aniston wore a black Valentino dress with a slit up the right leg at the Golden Globe Awards. Both women have been in a relationship with Brad Pitt! Both dresses had slits! Both designer names begin with V!

The ensuing slug-fest in the article’s comments are leaning in two basic directions: anyone with legs as fabulous as Anistons should wear nothing but slit dresses, and Us Magazine must have a hard time finding celebrity news if two women wearing dresses with one thing in common on two different continents in different decades, no less, can lead to allegations of copy-catting.

Bottom line to all the Golden Globes chatter: people adore Jennifer Aniston and will forgive her anything (including Love Happens) for consistently taking the high road with respect to her ex, no matter how many media outlets try to turn it into a catfight.

Mariah Carey Unleashes Bubbly

Posted on 15 February 2010 by Angelique

The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA

Called Angel Champagne (Rose), it should be ready for cork-popping either in “mid-January,” i.e., now, or “sometime in 2010″ depending on the source.

Carey’s acceptance speech was for her Breakthrough Actress Performance in the movie Precious. The champagne is not Carey’s first venture into the world of spirits. In 2006 she invested in a Mendocino County vineyard, which that year produced Mariah Vineyard Zinfandel, which was described as having a “vanilla oak spice,” and being a “tight Zinfandel with red berry fruit of currants and strawberry.” According to that ironclad source known as MTV Cribs, Carey endorsed the wine once, and still enjoys it very much and serves it often.

When she’s not regaling us with her amazing singing voice or indulging in some award show celebration, Carey is enjoying her new status as an actress. She won critical acclaim for her role as a frumpy social worker in Precious, a movie about a pregnant teen who tries to turn her life around. “It is overwhelming — all the praise and hype,” she told Fox News, “but I just did my work and I loved it — that is what matters to me.”

Miley Cyrus to Help Haiti Earthquake Victims

Posted on 11 February 2010 by Angelique

Miley Cyrus Grabs Dinner

The teen pop queen is putting together a star-studded auction online that will benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti. Cyrus told People magazine, “Ever since the earthquake, I’ve been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti – and I wanted to do more.”

Here are the details:

Cyrus has talked many of her celebrity friends into donating to the auction, including Britney Spears and Nicole Richie, who donated a minidress from the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and jewelry, respectively. Joel Madden, partner to Richie, sent some of his clothes to be auctioned. Other donations to the auction were made by Demi Lovato and Hugh Jackman. Cyrus herself is donating the Herve Leger dress she wore to the Grammy Awards Jan. 31, and two tickets to the premiere of her new movie The Last Song.

Starting Feb. 8, fans can go to eBay to bid on the swag, with all proceeds going to the relief efforts of the American Red Cross in Haiti. Cyrus’ sister Brandi and her band Frank & Derol will perform for Harmonies for Haiti, another charity event to benefit Haitian earthquake victims on Feb. 11 in Hollywood.

‘Fragile’ Heidi Montag’s Mom is Freaked Out by Daughter’s Transformation

Posted on 09 February 2010 by Angelique

Though she tells People magazine she’s “fragile” and “not in a great place right now,” Heidi Montag insists she’s the happiest she’s ever been, despite her mother’s bewilderment with her surgically-produced physical transformation.

Montag recently saw her mother Darlene Egelhoff for the first time since her plastic surgery marathon in late 2009 during which she had 10 procedures in a day. The reunion, which took place in Crested Butte, Colorado, Montag’s hometown, didn’t exactly go as planned.

Telling People that her mother looked at her like a “zoo animal” and a “circus freak,” Montag insisted that the only problem her mom had with her new plastic face and body was that “Spencer was there for me and she wasn’t.” Spencer is the widely disliked reality television star that Montag is married to. Mom also expressed her feelings that the great pressures of the music industry are warping Heidi’s self image, but Heidi says that her surgical changes are necessary to her career as a pop star, because part of being a pop star is being “the most beautiful, inside and out.”

Heidi’s sister Holly, who also appears on the “reality” show The Hills on MTV applauded her sister’s action, saying “She’s being very strong and holding to her own morals and I’m very proud of her.”

Kristen Bell is Engaged!

Posted on 05 February 2010 by Angelique

Kristen Bell and longtime sweetheart Dax Shepard attended Sunday night’s Grammy Awards, with Bell resplendent on the red carpet in Jimmy Choo shoes and a dress by Etro, but the highlight of the outfit was Bell’s new engagement ring.

Designed by Neil Lane, it is a cafe au lait-colored, emerald cut diamond approximately the size of a headlight on a 1987 Jeep Wrangler. Set in platinum, the rock is surrounded with smaller accent diamonds. Bell was photographed looking triumphant next to her squeeze Sunday night, and confirmed the news that she and 35-year-old Shepard will wed after having been together for many years.

Bell, 29, stars in the television show “Heroes,” while Shepard has been on “My Name is Earl” and “Punk’d”

The two recently starred in the romantic comedy When in Rome. In the movie, an ambitious New Yorker, played by Bell, scoops up some magic coins from a fountain that make a bunch of dudes fall in love with her: a sausage mogul, a street magician, a painter, and a self-absorbed male model, played by Shepard. The movie has been variously reviewed as “annoying,” “painfully bad,” and “pointless.”

Here’s hoping the couple’s off-screen life will be otherwise.

Vanity Fair Cover Awash in Young White Female Actresses

Posted on 03 February 2010 by Angelique

mr_40fc4805acccb2

March means two things: College Basketball Playoffs in the U.S., and Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue. The cover on this year’s issue is wall to wall with the young, the blonde, and the caucasian. The lineup includes: Anna Kendrick, 24, Evan Rachel Wood, 24, Emma Stone, 21, Mia Wasikowska, 20, Rebecca Hall, 27, Amanda Seyfried, 24, Carey Mulligan, 24, Kristen Stewart, 19, and Abbie Cornish, 27.

Which ones will still be written about 10 years hence? It is interesting to speculate. In that vein, if we go back 10 years, to the April 2000 Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair, we have the following: Penelope Cruz, Wes Bentley, Mena Suvari, Marley Shelton, Chris Klein, Selma Blair, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Sarah Wynter. Determine what percentage of those you remember, then handicap the odds as you will.

According to the cover copy, these nine represent “the new Hollywood.” That’s because “the old Hollywood” always shunned the extremely young, physically perfect ingenue, right?

The nine cover pics were arranged with hair color rotating throughout, perhaps to make it easier to tell them apart. But it might explain why 24-year-old Anna Kendrick, around whom Oscar buzz is floating like a glittery aura, ended up on the inside fold. The three brunettes had to be distributed evenly so as not to upset the balance.

By tradition, famed photographer Annie Leibovitz shoots the Hollywood Issue cover, and this year is no exception.

Pink’s Grammy Performance Rated Tops

Posted on 02 February 2010 by Angelique

Photo from fOTOGLIF

It’s science as only MTV can do it. Sunday night’s Grammy Awards program shoehorned 16 performances into the three and a half hour broadcast, among them some of the biggest names in the music business: Elton John in a duet with Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Smoky Robinson, and Jennifer Hudson, among others. So the MTV Newsroom blog took a totally scientific poll of 6,300 MTV fans who read the blog and decided to chime in on whose performance they thought was the best of the broadcast.

Pink won.

With 33% of the vote, the edgy pop singer took top honors for her performance of “Glitter in the Air.” The number was technically impressive, because she had to sing while spinning around suspended in mid-air. It was also visually stunning, with amazing acrobatics incorporated. That was no lip sync she was doing, belting out lyrics while spinning around, afraid, she was going to, as she said, “fall on my nude butt.”

The Lady Gaga / Elton John duet was the runner-up. After these two performances, its sort of a jumble of Beyonce, Taylor Swift, the Michael Jackson tribute, and the Dave Matthews Band.

Pink later revealed that she and husband Carey Hart separated, but never actually divorced, citing a mutual hatred of paperwork.
