Pierre Hardy has been quietly influencing shoe design for a couple of decades now. The quiet French designer has worked for Christian Dior, Hermes, and Balenciaga before going it on his own. He once told the Independent in London that when he designs shoes, he tries to envision what a girl walking into a shop would love to find there. So far, the approach has worked: his shoes are coveted by the wealthy and the typical high street shopper alike.

Unfortunately, the average high street shopper would have a hard time affording a gorgeous pair of shoes from one of Pierre Hardy’s boutiques. However, in a stroke of brilliance, Hardy has teamed up with that quintessentially American supplier of affordable clothing, The Gap, to bring the masses versions of his shoes that are more affordable.

Two of his designs include these boots that are so chic and gorgeous that you’ll wear them from now until next spring, and you’ll be sad when the weather finally gets too warm for boot wearing. Here’s an ankle boot in a dark sand color that goes with everything.

Don’t they just totally inspire confidence? Can’t you see yourself demanding (and getting) a raise while wearing these? They’re simply divine.

You can also get it in a mid-calf shearling version in a steely gray that will actually make you wish for weather cold enough to wear them in:

Found your winter boots, have you? Excellent choice!

Oh, the leather jacket. Never before has one piece garnered so much attention in the "save or splurge" category. You know the pros and cons of each by now, so let's jump ahead to a much more exciting debate: real vs. faux leather.

Oh, the leather jacket. Never before has one piece garnered so much attention in the “save or splurge” category. You know the pros and cons of each by now, so let’s jump ahead to a much more exciting debate: real vs. faux leather. Faux leather is usually easy to distinguish from real, and a faux jacket can run you anywhere from $40 at Forever 21 to almost $200 at Urban Outfitters. While there are gems to be found, my guess is you’re giving up either quality fabric (not that good faux leather doesn’t exist) or quality construction– two things that can make or break your purchase. Real leather jackets, while often considerably more expensive, are generally going to be of a higher overall quality, regardless of the material, so if you plan on wearing your jacket regularly for more than one season, you may want to invest in the real deal. I’ve found several real leather jackets that retail for less than $250, and if you can dig up a coupon code or are brave enough to play the game known as “I’ll wait ’til it goes on sale,” you can snap one of these up for quite the steal. The trick is to look in places you may not normally frequent! So-called “mom brands” like Ann Taylor, Eddie Bauer, and Jones New York happen to have gorgeous leather jackets that easily rival the trend pieces you’d see in any high-end shop– at about a third of the price.

Just in time for fall, the new TransFOURmer coat from the Rachel Rachel Roy collection is not only super chic, but smart and thrifty too! As seen in Real Simple magazine, the Transfourmer coat is one coat that can be unzipped and worn in 4 different ways.

Remove the bottom for a chic motorcycle jacket look or take off the sleeves and bottom for a twist on a vest. The inside is lined with Rachel’s signature graffiti print, for an unexpected pop of color.

Mardou&Dean are designers of tailored pieces made from the finest fabrics and leathers, and everyday clothing like t-shirts and jeans. Mardou&Dean want to give you a certain sense of euphoria that comes from wearing beautiful, impeccably made clothing. The company started in 2007 with high fashion jeans, added sweaters and tees in 2008, and launched Mardou&Dean Souterrain in February 2009, a collection of tailored gowns, pants, jackets, shirts, and outerwear that are currently in limited production. Here is pop singing star Brandy wearing a pair of Mardou&Dean jeans for a concert:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching an eyewear collection for spring under their luxury label The Row, reports today’s Women’s Wear Daily. The line will be produced in licensed partnership with Linda Farrow Eyewear. “Designing eyewear was definitely more complicated than we thought, and of course we wanted to be extremely hands-on,” said Mary-Kate.

The line will retail from $325 to $390 and will feature four styles: a classic metal aviator, an oversize square frame, vintage-inspired brow-line rims and a pair of round shades taken from the sixties. It will target its current retailers, including Barneys New York and Bergdorf Goodman.
