Get Lucky For Your Wedding With David’s Bridal

Posted on 08 August 2008 by Jacqueline H

As we all know today is really a special day. 8.8.08. What does it all mean? Well firstly, the Olympics have kicked off in China, and according to statistics nearly 8000 brides-to-be are tying the knot today! Superstitious? Well just maybe!

In Chinese culture, the number “88” resembles a popular Chinese design that means joy and happiness. And, with many brides-to-be among the population’s superstitious, it should come as no surprise that the same date is one of the top picks for tying the knot. In fact, it’s the most popular Friday wedding date of the entire year.

But if you are still planning that special day. It is a great day for fashion! And David’s Bridal really offers a great array of gowns for you to feel lady like in.

I actually love the Oleg Cassini collection. Quite aptly titled by David’s as their “timeless couture style”. Here are a few of my favorite couture picks.

The Couture Bride - Chooses the strapless sweetheart beaded lace trumpet with a shirred tulle bodice gown.

The Traditional Bride - Dons a satin A-line with beaded embroidery gown. Accented with a satin belt, brooch detail, and organza skirt. Just beautiful!

The Celebrity Bride - Wears this satin gown with cinched bust, beaded lace bodice, and a peek-a-boo lace hem. Gosh! The bride will be blushing!

The Princess Bride - Wears a satin ball gown with a pick-up skirt and beaded metallic embroidery on the bodice. She’ll be the belle of the ball.

Be Your Own Style Icon & Create Your Style With Yoana Baraschi And Black Halo

Posted on 07 August 2008 by Jacqueline H

Be your own style icon! And create a unique style just for you. Today we are featuring classic designer Yoana Baraschi, paired with pearls. Or get a more casual approach with a Black Halo dress and silver flats. Either way, you’re going to look good!

Yoana Baraschi has wonderfully cut designs. And her choice of metallic grays is very eye catching. Though her designs are simple. You can still feel like a movie star in one of her garments. This dress is high fashion! I love the fit, color, and style! This will look great with pumps and into fall with a great pair of black boots! My Star suggestions who would wear her designs are Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman, Christina Applegate, and Paris Hilton.

Black Halo has some really fabulous designs. And their outfits can look great at the office or for any evening event. Now you’re looking haute couture! Here are my favorite picks.

Hot Celebrity Trend: How to Wear One-Shoulder Dresses

Posted on 06 August 2008 by Wendy O

Blake Lively (source)

Rachel Bilson (source)

One of the most unexpected and surprisingly fresh trends of late summer seems to be the one-shoulder dress. Across the board, this vampy look is making waves with all types of celebrities. Whether they are going for an avant-garde look, or merely something youthful and fun, celebs are making this revolving trend their own again.

My favorite new twist on this hot again trend is the belted look. Blake lively turns an average blue dress into something fabulous with a simple cinch of the belt. For a more off-beat look, opt for a cap sleeve, like on Rachel Bilson. One of my favorite ways to wear the one-shoulder look is the “Grecian goddess” style, like on Jenny McCarthy. Gauzy fabrics and pleated gathers make for an ethereal yet sophisticated look on a one-shoulder dress.

Want to try this hot celebrity trend? Here’s how to wear one-shoulder dresses:

Fun:

Look for bright colors and flirty details, while keeping it simple all at the same time. This trend will work best with a solid color (a print will make this style look dated). I absolutely love this one from Juicy Couture…it makes me want to go dancing!

Basic:

Yes, a one-shoulder dress can be basic, I promise. If you are hesitant to try this trend, go for a simple sheath in black first. This is perfect paired under a shrunken tuxedo jacket for work; nix the jacket for happy hour for a great desk-to-dinner look.

Still wondering what to do with that one-shoulder top you’ve been kicking around your closet since 2002? Resurrect it! If it is a solid color (black and white are going to work best), pair it with a pencil skirt in a matching or complimenting color and cinch in the middle with a belt. Voila! Instant dress! Try this trend out now while the weather is still warm, and let us know what you think of this look.

Hot Off The Runway: Style Trends See Fall Fashion Going Slick

Posted on 05 August 2008 by Jacqueline H

Versace’s opts for “black and slick” at the fall fashions

Ok, so we are all tired of the current economic crisis hitting the US. And especially with the gas and oil prices reaching their limits. But who would have thought that this would affect the fashion designs at the fall runway shows? These fall fashion trends are going slick, shiny and black. Quite the influence considering the mounting global obsession with Oil. While governments argue, our trendy haute couture designers see this as the perfect opportunity to jump on the band wagon, and deliver what the economics are saying. Oil or bust.

We see Alexander Wang, Kai Kühne, and Roksanda Ilincic all enhancing the devilish look of the modern oil trend. With black leather, silks, patent leathers, and even materials that look like plastic bags. The price tag might even seem more reasonable. Compared to exorbitant fuel costs. But one thing is for sure. And that is you will have more mileage out of your designer wear.

Recession? Reimagine! Budget Trends for Every Fashionista.

Posted on 23 July 2008 by Wendy O

Pleat-Front Jersey Dress by Metro 7, $14.00 Wal-Mart.com

Ok, times are tough all over right now, that’s obvious. Soaring food and gas prices…blah, blah, blah. We hear it and live it every day. While there may not be much relief in sight, and our pocket books will likely continue to suffer, there’s no reason to throw in the fashion towel. You just have to change the rules, switch it up and open your mind to new fashion frontiers while tightening your belt at the same time. Here are some of my tried and true tips to finding budget trends that are easy on my wallet:

1) Get thrifty: For some reason, there are some people who are squeamish about thrift store shopping. I got over it really quickly when I found a brand new pair of pointy toe flats for $2.99 a couple of years back. The biggest problem is that there is usually so much to choose from, with poor organization. When I go, I have a specific list of things I want to buy in mind (based on current trends). This keeps me focused and stops me from buying that really cool 1980’s sequined dress.

Things to look for at thrift stores right now: menswear vests, vintage peep-toe shoes, drop-waist dresses, envelope clutches, long cardigans, belts, chunky necklaces and much more! Just open up a Vogue for inspiration and you’ll be surprised at what you can find.

2) Get thee to a Wal-Mart: …or Target, or K-Mart. You get the idea. While Target is a no-brainer, their “Go” line is kinda pricey. Hit the sales racks for the best deals. However, the best steal I have found recently was at Wal-Mart…they have a ton of No Boundaries jersey knit sun dresses in solid colors and exotic prints for only $15.00. I got one in teal and am going back for more.

3) Shop in your own closet: I bet you have at least one item in there with the tag still on it. If you haven’t worn it already, return it if you can, or wear it! Again, look to magazines for inspiration to see how you can put outfits together in ways you may never have thought of. I like to look at “Lucky” to see how they put pieces together in different ways. Layer two dresses together, use a skirt as a top…the possibilitites are endless!

Whether you decide to shop for cheaper threads, or simply get creative with what you already have, don’t let a lagging economy keep you from your chic. With a little extra work, you’ll still look like a million bucks, even if your bank account is in the red.
