My Latest Obsession: ShopSheBoutique.com

Posted on 29 January 2010 by Angelique

The “She” in ShopSheBoutique.com stands for “She Has Everything.” The shop is tops for sophistication, glamour, and everything that is fashion forward in Chicago. The blend of styles is eclectic with influences from Europe to the California coast. Casual knitwear and gorgeous dresses are She Boutique’s specialties.

If you don’t have a chance to shop the 2,200 square foot boutique in Highland Park, you can shop online at your convenience. Do you have a little black dress, otherwise known as the LBD? If not, why not? If so, wouldn’t it be great to have more than one? Here are some great designs to lust after.

SBT01452

If you have great legs and don’t mind showing them off, then this Alice + Olivia dress with a sculptural skirt will have everyone doing a double take when they see the asymmetrical skirt. The asymmetry is designed to be flattering, suggesting curvy hips and great legs.

SBT01428

The Paulina Dress in black, by Black Halo features draping reminiscent of some of the best party wear of the 1980s. It’s sophisticated, dressy, and designed with a sophisticated front slit.

SBT01390

SEA’s Jersey Pleat and Silk Zip Up Dress is almost the anti-LBD. With a fitted waist, and side pleats at the waist band, it closes with a long zipper that runs from the collar to the bottom of the waist. Perfect when worn with black ankle boots and attitude.

SBT01232
The Black Beetle Criss Cross Dress is a lovely, ladylike dress. It has a princess seam across bust and built in boning from the bust to the waist. The criss cross trimmed skirt is topped with a tulip-shaped bubble layer. It also has an invisible back zipper and back keyhole opening.

You  know another great thing about these fabulous black dresses? If you use the promotional code: coutureinthecity” you’ll get 25% off your purchase! No excuses now!

Deals of the Week

Posted on 21 January 2010 by Angelique

sale_01

The 80s are having a fashion revival at the moment, and these three deals of the day give you the 80s look without the 80s cheesiness. Just a small dose of this trend brightens up your winter wardrobe. And these three pieces will go with clothes and accessories you already own.

The Cynthia Rowley flutter sleeve halter dress features shoulder cutouts, ruching at the waist, ruffles at the bodice, and halter straps. High heel ankle booties finish this 80s look off with 2010 style.

Winter 2010 isn’t all about black. This Linea Pelle Janice shoulder bag in white leather captures the current handbag trend of fringe in soft leather with suede interior and silver zipper details.

Short skirts are a great way to show off your legs. This Purple Label women’s Ania studded skirt in black is an example that will go with any number of tops and shoes. The rayon/wool blend means that it holds its shape beautifully even after several wearings.

Hit or Miss? 67th Annual 2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet Looks

Posted on 19 January 2010 by Angelique

FP_IMAGE_4380639/FP_SET_4379342

Kate Hudson wore a white gown by Marchesa with white platform shoes. The cut of the dress adds some curvature to her slight figure. The upswept hair and minimal jewelry that included gorgeous tassel earrings and a cuff bracelet make this look a definite hit. In fact, I thought the dress would make a great bridal gown for an avant garde 2010 bride.

FP_IMAGE_4379986/FP_SET_4379342

Leona Lewis wore a jewel-colored strapless dress by Roberto Cavalli. Though the dress is made to emphasize her hourglass figure, the bodice is cut in a way that detracts from the overall look. Like Hudson, she kept the jewelry to a minimum, which was probably a good choice. But this look is a miss – just barely.

FP_IMAGE_4379989/FP_SET_4379342

Fergie wore a stunning blue Elie Saab gown with a jeweled cummerbund and layered long skirt. This gown is gorgeous enough that Fergie made a wise decision in her only accessory being husband Josh Duhamel, but it would have looked even more beautiful if she had worn her hair up.

FP_IMAGE_4380722/FP_SET_4379342

Cameron Diaz wore a red confection from Alexander McQueen. While Diaz definitely has the slender figure necessary to look good in shiny fabric, the 80s cut of the dress plus the pulled-back hair, plus the lack of jewelry (a diamond pendant would have been lovely with this) makes it just miss being a hit.

FP_IMAGE_4380725/FP_SET_4379342

Julia Roberts looked beautiful in her cocktail length Yves St. Laurent dress accented with what is either a statement necklace, or part of the dress itself in gold that gives what would be a rather boring dress a bit of a bohemian vibe perfectly suitable for Roberts. It’s a great look, just not for an occasion this formal. Had this been a long version of the same dress, it probably would be a hit.

yjin1272kr8i

Kate Winslet wowed in a one-shoulder beauty by Yves St. Laurent. The straight-across neckline with jeweled detailing down the right side of the bodice is exactly the kind of dress that a figure like Winslet’s looks great in. The upswept hair shows off the one-shoulder design to its best advantage.

bqynd291pnkz

Chloe Sevigny wore ruffled lilac Valentino and like many of the other women at the Golden Globes, went understated with the jewelry. This could have been a hit had she gone with less severe hair, or had she kept the hair and gone with a sleeker dress.

FP_IMAGE_4380282/FP_SET_4379342

Drew Barrymore chose a nude color gown by Atelier Versace, which was a great color for her. But the dress had two strange outpouchings – one on the left shoulder and the other on the right hip, and the cut of the dress didn’t show off her fabulous figure. A lack of weird add-ons and a differently cut bodice could have made this a hit.

pacu2qq6kro0

Maggie Gyllenhaal chose a lovely peach sorbet color, but unfortunately, it was on a gown by RM Roland Mouret that had way too much going on: a complex one-shoulder design, a series of layers radiating out from the right side of the waist, a pieced skirt, and a mermaid hem from the knees down. Gyllenhaal has a slender figure that looks great in just about anything, which  means that probably nobody could have looked good in this dress.

FP_IMAGE_4381420/FP_SET_4379346

Jennifer Aniston wore a black Valentino gown in a one-shoulder design with a daring thigh-high slit. Worn with strappy, high heeled sandals, the outfit is gorgeous enough that Aniston can be forgiven for not doing something a little more polished with her hair. It’s a hit.

FP_IMAGE_4380885/FP_SET_4379346

Christina Aguilera wore a long peach dress by Versace that showed off her figure beautifully and didn’t get as overly daring as some Versace numbers tend to do. It’s a hit, but it would be even more of a hit had she not gone with the soccer mom bob hairstyle.

British Label Disaya

Posted on 18 January 2010 by Angelique

Disaya_Line

Disaya is a relatively new British label that is both playful and sophisticated, reflective of the electric vibe designer’s London home.

A perfect example is the Disaya spidy bangle in gold and black. Jewelry this season is bold, and this bracelet is a perfect example. For a night out on the town (and lucky you if London is that town!), the Disaya silver shiny evening dress is part mod, part fairy tale, a gorgeous young look that would look great topped with a knee-length, black faux fur evening coat.

The Disaya teddy necklace is a long gold chain with a tough-cute teddy bear pendant. He’s wearing this season’s metal spike look to show that tough and cute are not mutually exclusive!

Disaya means edgy designs for the girl who doesn’t want to look cookie-cutter or unsophisticated. No wonder this line is worn by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Amy Winehouse

Latest Obsession: Asymmetric Dresses

Posted on 12 January 2010 by Angelique

Asymmetrical dresses are enjoying a moment right now, and there’s no better example out there than the ALC Capelet Dress with Belt. It’s a V-neck jersey frock with a draped cape overly on one side and a leather belt to emphasize the waist. With ruching at the shoulders and an asymmetric hem, this 100% modal dress is very classy and very sexy.

9111W55-BLACK-SIZE3

If you’re looking for the Little Black Dress to turn all the other LBDs green with envy, then this MaxStudio beaded silk chiffon asymmetric dress is flattering, with gorgeous beadwork at the neckline, and fluttery silk chiffon is topped with a second layer of fabric draped on the bias from shoulder to hem. This is the perfect black-tie dress, and would be lovely to wear on a Valentine’s Day date with someone very special.

You wouldn’t expect Diane Von Furstenberg to sit out a trend as fabulous as asymmetrical dresses, now would you? In black draped satin jersey, this Greek goddess inspired cocktail dress would look stunning with hair worn up and sparkly earrings. The simple design looks like something Audrey Hepburn would have worn.

forever unique stud dress

For the woman who has no intention of blending into the background this Forever Unique Stud Detail Asymmetric Dress is short with a studded wrap-around design and a single strap. This is a body conscious style that no one will soon forget.

And finally, we have the silk-blend liquid gold lame draped dress by Marc Jacobs – the same style worn by Kate Moss at the MOMA Gala in 2009. There is no other word for this dress than simply stunning. With metallic heels (or perhaps jeweled black heels), you are sure to be the center of attention in this confection.

10 Stylish Sweater Dresses To Keep You Cozily Chic!

Posted on 05 January 2010 by Angelique

930122_024_b

I love wearing dresses and just about anything that involves skipping pants. Especially when paired with boots, dresses, skirts and leggings are so much more comfortable than a pair of jeans. Yet, with the cold weather that we’re experiencing, it’s hard to throw on a breezy dress without also adding a bulky coat and multiple scarves to keep from freezing. A simple solution? Sweater dresses! They’re thicker and warmer so you can trade out that heavy coat for a lighter one, and keep a few scarves at home instead of piling them all on your neck. Pretty prints, saturated solids, or with long sleeves or none, sweater dresses come in a variety of looks and styles so you’ll be sure to find one that suits your personal taste and local weather!

Designer Spotlight: Australian Fashion Label Wish

Posted on 04 January 2010 by Angelique

The Iconic Australian fashion label called Wish wants to dress every girl in a fashion forward wardrobe that is beautiful, unique, and totally wearable. Wish collections take in the very best of the season and create garments that gracefully walk that fine line between feminine and edgy. This season, studs are in vogue, and Wish has taken notice. Their holiday dresses and tops are priced perfectly for giving as gifts, and Wish clothing can be found at boutiques nationwide.

add_140_00a

The Olivia Zip Swing Dress is perfectly feminine yet isn’t afraid to color outside the lines. It’s made of natural fibres and is sheer, unlined, and stretchy. With a scoop neckline, wide straps, and racer back with zip detail, it fits loose and generous. The hem is pointed and curved and falls below the knee. You can get it in black or vintage gray. It’s perfect over tanks, tube tops, and leggings, whether belted or not.

ade_108_01a

The Melody Chiffon Dress is one-shouldered and made of sheer chiffon in black. The top is semi-fitted with a high waist. The skirt hem lands just above the knee. The flouncy shoulder strap cascades down the front and back, then all the way down the side to the hem.

ade_062_01a

Wow: talk about glamour! The Encore Beaded Dress is simple in design with wide straps and a scoop neck in front and back. It is fitted and drops to a low waist where it meets the flared, paneled skirt that falls to the mid-thigh. The entire dress is covered with sequins with larger sequins enhancing the skirt. You can get it in black with silver sequins or gold with gold sequins. This is a holiday party dress for the record books!

ade_074_01b

Here are a multitude of dresses wrapped up in one beautifully draped package. The New Look Drape Dress is low-backed and has a stretchy high waist. Ending in an asymmetric hem, it has two wide, long top parts that cross over in front. It can be worn in many different ways, from one-shouldered to keyhole halter style. It can also be worn as a skirt.

ade_034_02_cult

If you need a dress for the holiday season, the Cult Bodice Dress would be a great choice. It’s fully boned, and strapless, made of lightly crushed taffeta satin and is fully lined. The skirt is a ball gown style with a French parachute hem. The top features lovely ruching and a sash bow detail.

This line is for the confident woman who isn’t afraid to be different. Wish fills a desperate void of gorgeous, sophisticated, and decidedly non-matronly dresses for today’s woman.
