Jennifer Hudson – Gorgeous and Confident at the Superbowl – Get the Look

Posted on 10 February 2009 by Angelique

Jennifer Hudson

The 2009 NFL Superbowl on Sunday, February 1st marked Jennifer Hudson’s comeback and she couldn’t have looked more gorgeous as she sang the Star Spangled Banner. Makeup Artist Sam Fine details below how to get a look that screams naturally confident.

“Jennifer is very trusting with her team and really allowed us to collaborate to bring a look that is fresh and new to her,” says Sam. “She was performing a classic song, so I gave her a classic look that would speak to the song she was performing.”

Get that Confident Glow
“On a field seen by millions of people, it’s important to have beautiful skin,” advises Sam. “I like to start with a perfect canvas – that is a priority.”

How to: Start by layering bronzer onto the cheek bones using Mac Mineralized Skin Finish in Brunette. Then, apply a vibrant blush on top to add a pop of color.

Create a Classic Eye

“I wanted to play up the gold buttons on her jacket,” says Sam. “So I used a golden brown eye shadow on the eyelid.”
How To: Apply a light brown eye shadow across the lid. Then use Avon’s Ultra Luxury Eye Liner in Black on the inside rim of the eye to add depth and definition.

“You can’t do a performance without false lashes,” states Sam. “They give the eyes sparkle in a naturally glamorous way.”

How To: Apply the false lashes and then fuse them with your own lashes using a great mascara like Avon’s SuperSHOCK Mascara.

Nude Lip is a Must
“I created a nude lip for Jennifer because I knew that a microphone would be in it’s way for the performance,” says Sam. “I didn’t want to call too much attention to the mouth.”
How To: Use a dark brown liner that is two shades darker than your lip color. Then add a nude to the middle of the lip – try Avon’s Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in Rose Mauve. Dab on a bit of gloss in the center to finish.

The overall look was natural, beautiful and confident. “Jennifer was so excited – I think her team was more nervous than she was,” admits Sam. “We knew how important this was to her. But she was so clam and focused, listening to the song throughout the session to perfect the timing.”

Post Golden Globes Hair Wrap-Up! By Hair Stylist Robert Vetica For Salma Hayek and Kyra Sedgwick!

Posted on 15 January 2009 by Jacqueline H

For this season’s Golden Globes, celebrity stylist Robert Vetica created
two of the most glamorous looks on the red carpet for Salma Hayek and Kyra
Sedgwick!

Salma Hayek’s Sleek and Sexy Style

Products used for Salma Hayek’s look:
Moroccanoil Treatment for beautiful, extra shine and smoothness.

To create Salma Hayek’s sexy and slicked-back style, Vetica started with
wet hair. “I worked Moroccanoil(TM) Treatment through to detangle and smooth
out split ends and then dried the hair straight using Moroccanoil Hydrating
Styling Cream to give added shine and smoothness,” he explains.

Salma Hayek wore a Boucheron $250,000 diamond hair wrap which was specially
made for her, and the key was to keep the hair looking sleek.

How to get Salma’s look!

- Vetica pulled the hair back into two ponytails, the first one from ear to
crown to opposite ear and pulled it back low at the nape of the neck.

- He pulled the remaining hair into a second ponytail, directly on top of the
first, back-combing it to give extra lift and to add texture.

- Next, he braided each section, turned them under and attached them at the
nape of the neck. The double braid gave the effect of a unique textured
thickness that made the look fresh and new. Then, he wrapped the diamond
band around this double braid for a simple but chic effect.

Kyra Sedgwick’s Golden Globes Look!

You kind find the products used for Kyra’s look at Moroccanoil. That Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream added shine, definition and eliminated frizz!

Kyra Sedgwick’s look was reminiscent of Rita Hayworth, but more delicate
and loosely curled. He then pulled it back to show off her face with
cascading hair when she turned. He wanted the hair down but still elegant, and
Hollywood and fresh.

How to get Kyra’s look!

- Kyra’s hair was blow-dried to a smooth finish with a touch of Moroccanoil
Treatment, directed away from the face using a strong spray gel to hold her
hair up and away from her forehead.

- The back of the hair was curled inward to create wave and volume. Vetica
used a heat styling spray to protect the hair and to help give a firm hold
to the swept back look.

- Vetica brushed Kyra’s hair back from the front, to keep it away from her
face. The final look framed her face and cascaded into waves when she
turned. Vetica finished the style by rubbing a small amount of Moroccanoil
Hydrating Styling Cream through his hands, smoothing the hair and adding
shine to finish and refine the look.

Exclusive Interview! With Lawrence Zarian – The Fashion Guy From TV Guide!

Posted on 28 November 2008 by Jacqueline H

Lawrence Zarian – The Fashion Guy! And America’s style guru!

I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Lawrence Zarian -The Fashion Guy! We jazzed about fashion, beauty and the hottest trends out there for this fall and winter season!

This dashing model turned TV star, has Hollywood – or dare I say the fashion world - wrapped around his little finger! From appearing live on ABC’s The Academy Awards. To changing lives with his fashionable and stylish make-overs on Live with Regis and Kelly. Turning the ordinary fashion starved lady into a hot and fashionable diva! Even TYRA can’t get enough of this Fashion Guy!

Now shining in his element on TV Guide Network’s – The Fashion Team. Lawrence is the host with the most! Serving his weekly dose of fashion news. From haute couture to Hollywood royalty, there’s nobody Lawrence can’t charm. His energy, quick wit, and insight on “what’s hot”. Not to mention his very funny and delectable sense of humor. (He had me tickling with laughter throughout our conversation!). Has made Lawrence one of the most sought after on-camera TV personalities today! Ladies and gentleman the man of the hour! The charming, the debonair, the breathtaking, the spectacular…Lawrence Zarian!

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: It is great to see you on TV Guide’s The Fashion Team! It must be so much fun! So far who would you say has been your favorite fashion guest and why?

Lawrence Zarian: Well there are actually two celebrities that I very much enjoyed having on the Fashion Team! The first is Jaclyn Smith. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. The second is Vanessa Williams. I think she is great. And I just love the way she portrays herself. Especially as an actress on Ugly Betty. Those are my favorite two!

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Of course here at Couture in the City our readers are excited to hear what is the next fall fashion trend we should be looking out for. So tell me Lawrence, what is in right now?

Lawrence Zarian: Well I am a true believer that you should buy what you can afford. I would recommend for the ladies to keep their look clean, simple, and classic. Go for that classic black skirt, or that black pencil skirt! Go for textured tights, tall boots and a great turtle neck to finish the look. You know even a simple broach just adds that classic finish. Purple is hot right now! Anything purple!

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: In regards to that how could we find that great look? And where could we purchase that look for less lets say?

Lawrence Zarian: I like JC Penny’s, Marshalls, Target, Macy’s, Forever 21. And Lane Bryant for plus sizes.

Lawrence interviewing none other than Charlie’s Angel – Jaclyn Smith – on The Fashion Team!

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Lawrence is it bags, shoes or belts! What should a girl grab right now for fall as the hottest accessory! And where if she wanted to could she buy it?

Lawrence Zarian: I love the chunky jewelry! You can get a great look for less! Go to JC Penny, Forever 21. And accessorize with those pearls and chunky necklaces! Go for those purples and aborigines. And stack up those bracelets!

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Now, I have asked you all about fashion. But I would love to know more about your fashion loves! So who is your favorite fashion designer today?

Lawrence Zarian: For men, Hugo Boss – he has a very classic everyday look and wear. And for women – Valentino.

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Do you prefer the term Fashion Diva or Fashionista?

Lawrence Zarian: (Joking voice) I like the term… Fashion Guy

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Ok last but not least! Here’s a tough one for you! Let’s challenge your fashion smarts, since your are the guru of fashion! Which famous French designer once quoted “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different?” And “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” I’ll give you a hint! Her famous logo interlinks. Can you guess it!?

Lawrence Zarian: Oh gosh! Let me think about that for a minute…Oh! That has to be Coco Chanel?! Did I get it right?

Jacqueline – Couture in the City: Yes! Yes you did!

Check out Lawrence every Sunday on TV Guide Network – The Fashion Team!
