My Must Have Holiday Gift List

Posted on 01 December 2009 by Angelique

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been extremely good this year and I’ve got the Christmas list to prove it. I sure hope I’m on Santa’s “nice” list too, because there are a lot of great fashions I have my eye on. Here are some of them.

jacquard_biker_jacket

Here’s a nifty Jacquard Biker Jacket from Topshop with gold zipper detailing and a squared-off biker shape: the must-have shape this season. Made of 65% polyester, 35% Viscose, this awesome jacket is $145.00 from topshop.com.

E5XR_l

I definitely want my face to be “well-dressed” in 2010, and this Bobbi Brown chrome-accented palette is just the ticket. With 10 eyeshadow shades, 4 lip colors, mini eyeshadow brush, and mini lip brush, I’m not sure I can wait for Christmas to open this one. $75.00 from BobbiBrown.com.

isabellapump

A classic platform pump like this Tory Burch Isabella Pump is timeless and works in all seasons. This is a luxury that’s also a wardrobe staple, with round toe, 1 inch platform, and 4 1/2 inch heel. $325.00 from ToryBurch.com.

studded cuff

Cuff bracelets are very popular right now, as is studded detail, and this Tory Burch Studded Cuff covers both trends. The 2 1/2 inch wide bracelet adjusts to 7 inches with interior snaps. $225.00 from ToryBurch.com.

10757-797724-p

Few things polish off an outfit like a classic gold watch. This crystal embellished watch from Guess has a Swarovski crystal bezel, round dial, and stainless steel band with a clasp closure. $200.00 from Zappos.com.

sweet heart necklace

I already have my Valentine’s Day jewelry picked out: this oxidized silver plate heart necklace from Bing Bang Jewelry by Anna Sheffield. Isn’t it divine? $125.00 from bingbangnyc.com.

biker boot

Boots are the saving grace for those bleak winter days because we can be confident that our feet look great. Here’s a   biker boot from Victoria’s Secret. With a 1 1/2 inch heel and metal detail, this boot does the job admirably. $198.00 from VictoriasSecret.com.

awang2034512867_p1_v1_m56577569831824395_347x683

The “hobo” bag is a hot look this winter, and the Donna Hobo by Alexander Wang is perfect. It is made from pebbled leather and has two welt pockets and four zip pockets with a knot detail on the shoulder strap. $795.00 from ShopBop.com.

Real Leather Jackets For Under $250!

Posted on 10 November 2009 by Angelique

102909-anthro

Oh, the leather jacket. Never before has one piece garnered so much attention in the “save or splurge” category. You know the pros and cons of each by now, so let’s jump ahead to a much more exciting debate: real vs. faux leather. Faux leather is usually easy to distinguish from real, and a faux jacket can run you anywhere from $40 at Forever 21 to almost $200 at Urban Outfitters. While there are gems to be found, my guess is you’re giving up either quality fabric (not that good faux leather doesn’t exist) or quality construction– two things that can make or break your purchase. Real leather jackets, while often considerably more expensive, are generally going to be of a higher overall quality, regardless of the material, so if you plan on wearing your jacket regularly for more than one season, you may want to invest in the real deal. I’ve found several real leather jackets that retail for less than $250, and if you can dig up a coupon code or are brave enough to play the game known as “I’ll wait ’til it goes on sale,” you can snap one of these up for quite the steal. The trick is to look in places you may not normally frequent! So-called “mom brands” like Ann Taylor, Eddie Bauer, and Jones New York happen to have gorgeous leather jackets that easily rival the trend pieces you’d see in any high-end shop– at about a third of the price.

Career Wear Essentials, with an Indie Twist

Posted on 10 March 2008 by Angelique

I may have begun to lose my faith in fashion…this weekend, my trip to the mall in search for some new career wear proved disasterous. Why is it that cubicles=boring button down shirts? Ick. I did get a few great career wear essentials at the GAP (after much dissapointment at Old Navy, The Loft and others):

gap-new.JPG

GAP Empire Dress, $42.99

This empire dress from the GAP was so flattering and cute and is the perfect wear-to-work basic. Whether paired with heels or flats, a cardigan and an arty necklace or just on it’s own, this dress is super versatile. It even has some hidden pockets, and also comes in black and grape.

I also found it hard to find anything suitable for work that was also interesting. Sure, there are some cute things at Target now and then, but you always run the risk of someone else at the office wearing the same thing. If you’ve been dying to find a new way to spruce up your office wardrobe, check out these unique (and corporate appropriate) finds from LeFashionista:

kahri-jacket.jpg

Kahri Rose Peplum Jacket

This one reminds me of what Amy Winehouse might wear if she worked as an administrative assistant…edgy, but professional at the same time!

d-celestine.jpg

D Celestine Ema Warm Necklace

This is just the right piece of jewelry to add a little something to my new blue dress! Arty, unique and interesting (without being too showy or in your face), this is a great necklace to pair with a dress, a cardigan or a scoop neck sweater.

misile-quebec-tunis.jpg

Misile Quebec Tunic

Paired with skinny black pants, this tunic from Misile is the perfect unique look for work. Cinch it with a unique belt to complete your look, and wear it with heels (as shown) for a hot weekend look.

If your current work wardrobe is giving you a case of the Monday’s, give it a lift with a few interesting pieces from LeFashionista because trust me, the mall is just going to dissapoint you anyway!

Herve Leger by Max Azria , Fall 2008 (source)

My Barbie doll collection circa 1988 would have died for Herve Leger’s Fall 2008 runway collection…too bad I don’t have a Barbie doll bod to pull these off now. New York Fashion Week for Fall 2008 has come up with a few surprises so far, but Herve Leger by Max Azria is one of my new faves.

The show seemed to have a split personality, with one half of the dresses looking like they were the work of a Russian Suprematist artist (thank you Kasimir Malevich) and the other half looking like, well, Russian Crystal Barbie. It’s just fab…I love Slavic-inspired looks for fall, don’t you?

Nude makeup and feathered accents rounded out this unique show…I fully intend to buy a knock-off of the gold dress (sans fur shawl and train) and I’ve been really inspired to buy a feather necklace for some reason. Well done Herve!

Keep checking with Couture in the City all this week for Fashion Week coverage…we’ll get addicted so you don’t have to.
