Top Men’s Dress Watches

Posted on 15 April 2008 by Jacqueline H

To dress without a watch these days is almost an impossible feet. Gentleman need to accessorize also. Especially to complement everyday wear, business meetings, active wear, and casual dress.

Here I review some of the top lines for the gentleman in your life, or for the man himself.

A. Lange & Söhne Grand Saxonia

A. Lange & Söhne Grand Saxonia

A. Lange and Söhne was founded in 1845. Since then, though, Lange has produced some rather excellent watches. The Grand Saxonia does have its own feature, of a ‘zero reset’ mechanism. And the movement visible behind the sapphire-crystal case-back is as beautiful as it is effective.

Cartier Santos-Dumont

Cartier Santos-Dumont

With sword-shaped hands and oversize Roman numerals. The Cartier Santos-Dumont (my personal favorite) is one of the first modern wristwatches. A brown dial gives the latest edition a contemporary feel, which lend the watch a “masculine” look. Contemporary meets with a modern classic. For the world class traveler and business man alike.

Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119

Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119

Patek is the oldest family-owned firm in Geneva, and this is its signature model. The company is one of the few that makes all its own components, from bracelets to movements, and each watch has the Geneva Seal.

Montblanc Star XXL Automatic

Montblanc Star XXL Automatic

Montblanc is a newcomer to watchmaking. The XXL’s classic-looking design is given a touch of class by the textured center section and the subtle blue of the hands. The 42-hour power reserve will get you to those big meetings on time every day.

Career Wear Essentials, with an Indie Twist

Posted on 10 March 2008 by Wendy O

I may have begun to lose my faith in fashion…this weekend, my trip to the mall in search for some new career wear proved disasterous. Why is it that cubicles=boring button down shirts? Ick. I did get a few great career wear essentials at the GAP (after much dissapointment at Old Navy, The Loft and others):

gap-new.JPG

GAP Empire Dress, $42.99

This empire dress from the GAP was so flattering and cute and is the perfect wear-to-work basic. Whether paired with heels or flats, a cardigan and an arty necklace or just on it’s own, this dress is super versatile. It even has some hidden pockets, and also comes in black and grape.

I also found it hard to find anything suitable for work that was also interesting. Sure, there are some cute things at Target now and then, but you always run the risk of someone else at the office wearing the same thing. If you’ve been dying to find a new way to spruce up your office wardrobe, check out these unique (and corporate appropriate) finds from LeFashionista:

kahri-jacket.jpg

Kahri Rose Peplum Jacket

This one reminds me of what Amy Winehouse might wear if she worked as an administrative assistant…edgy, but professional at the same time!

d-celestine.jpg

D Celestine Ema Warm Necklace

This is just the right piece of jewelry to add a little something to my new blue dress! Arty, unique and interesting (without being too showy or in your face), this is a great necklace to pair with a dress, a cardigan or a scoop neck sweater.

misile-quebec-tunis.jpg

Misile Quebec Tunic

Paired with skinny black pants, this tunic from Misile is the perfect unique look for work. Cinch it with a unique belt to complete your look, and wear it with heels (as shown) for a hot weekend look.

If your current work wardrobe is giving you a case of the Monday’s, give it a lift with a few interesting pieces from LeFashionista because trust me, the mall is just going to dissapoint you anyway!

Orange You Glad it’s Spring? Orange fashion trends.

Posted on 29 February 2008 by Wendy O

kate-walsh-orange.jpg

OK, please excuse the bad “orange” pun (it was either that or “Leap into Spring!” you know…for Leap Year?). All bad jokes aside, I can’t ignore the need for orange in my wardrobe any longer. I already gave Rihanna some serious props for her orange pumps (and now am in dire need of a pair for myself) and am giving second thoughts to this former “no no” fashion color.

The bottom line is that orange is no easy hue to pull off. You have to match the right shade to your skin tone or else you could just look like a great big mess. But don’t be afraid; there are many ways to incorporate some orange into your look without washing yourself out. Check out these fresh squeezed ideas:

1) Earrings

vintage-faux-coral.gif

Vintage Faux Coral and Wood Earrings, $32.00

I love the new-age tropical vibe that these earrings inspire…this is the perfect amount of orange for the wary fashionista, and a great addition to your spring wardrobe. These earrings are just begging to be taken to the beach.

2) Dresses

orange-dress.jpg

Free People Sylvie Dress, $148.00

I honestly like this better than Mrs. Beckhams Donna Karan kimono dress…so flirty and springy, you could wear this virtually anywhere. Dress it down with a jean jacket for a dinner date, or dress it up with heels and a clutch for a wedding or party.

3) Bags

orange-bag.jpg

Marc Jacobs Quilted Mary Bag

This coral quilted bag from Marc Jacobs is perfect for spring and will go with just about anything. Whether paired with jeans and a tee shirt, business attire or a flirty spring dress, an orange bag will get you more mileage than you think.

You don’t have to over-do it with the orange…the whole purpose of wearing this hue this spring is to add an element of surprise to your look. Pair an orange clutch with a solid white tee and jeans, orange earrings with a floral dress or (if you are lucky enough to find them) orange heels with a solid colored ensemble. Use your imagination to create your own juicy looks this spring.

Spring is in the air, and so it’s time to ditch those dark colors and start lightening up your wardrobe! One of the easiest ways of course to transition into spring is with jewelry! Check out these hot new jewelry looks at TheFind to see how you can add a little sunshine into your ensemble:

Floral Earrings:

round-floral-drop.jpg

Round Floral Drop Earrings at Nieman Marcus

Floral earrings are an easy and subtle way to sneak a little spring into your wardrobe. These round floral drop earrings are a classic and sophisticated way to update your look (and are also about the cost of my mortgage for two months…). If you don’t want to blow the rent, TheFind also has more modestly priced floral and flower earrings for you to choose from as well.

Bulgari Ring:

bulgari-ring.jpg

While celebs are usually the only ones that can afford Bulgari, this Bulgari-inspired ring is affordable for almost anyone at only $6! Bulgari and cocktail rings like this one will never go out of style and are the perfect addition to an evening dress or your favorite “going out” ensemble.

Chandelier Earrings:

Chandelier earrings are so 2003…and they are back and better than ever for 2008. It was only a few years ago that celebs started wearing chandelier style earrings everywhere, and I am so glad that they are back again. Great with jeans and a tee to pick up the drycleaning, or the perfect addition to your favorite spring dress, chandelier earrings are back and super hot. These dangly earrings are only $22!

Check out TheFind for more great floral earrings, chandeliers and Bulgari inspired rings at great prices!

Steal This Style! Amy Winehouse Rock Chic

Posted on 14 February 2008 by Wendy O

amy-winehouse-charm-necklace.jpg

Amy Winehouse (source)

Grammy sweeper, troubled chanteuse and bouffant-wearin’ Amy Winehouse certainly knows how to make an entrance. Whether on stage, wandering around her neighborhood at 3AM or heading to a hearing for her “Blake incarcerated,” Amy is almost always in style.

While her mile-high hair and extreme winged-out eyeliner may not be for everyone, her rock-chic style certainly has me coveting a pencil skirt or two. The beautiful part about Amy’s look is that almost anyone can do it, no matter what your personal style, and it can be worn to school, work, the movies, out to dinner or almost anywhere (minus the cleavage for work and school, of course).

Amy’s signature style is actually fairly easy to pull off, and you probably already have a few Winehouse-inspired pieces in your closet already. Check these out to add to what you may already have:

Have: Pencil skirt, wrap top, fishnet stockings, heels:

Need: Rocker-chic dress:

Tuleh, New York Fashion Week, Fall 2008

Tuleh 2008 Fall Collection (source)

If there is one thing that I would love to take away from the Tuleh 2008 Fall runway, it would have to be the colored knee high suede boots. Three of my favorite fall colors were put to good use (turquoise, purple and red), as well as a number of surprising patterns and accessories like matching fedora’s and thick gold chains. I really MUST have a pair of suede boots now, at the very least in turqouise. But I digress…

One of the things that I have always really loved about Tuleh’s runway is that you can imagine real people on the street wearing those clothes. Okay, really fashionable real people, but nonetheless, Tuleh’s runway would easily convert from the walkway to the streets. The fancy red ballgown would SO work for a black tie gala, I NEED one of those kimono’s for schlepping around the house, and again, THE BOOTS with a geometric print dress is my official favorite new look.

So, lesson’s to take away for Fall from the Tuleh runway:

1) Pair your fall dresses, solid or pattern, with a colored knee high boot.

2) Large over-sized clutches are the new stam bag.

3) Large gold chains are HOT.

Don’t want to wait until fall to start scamming off the Tuleh runway look? Yeah, me neither. Those boots are really calling my name now. You can get this look with a little help from LeFashionista, check it out:

juju-leroux.gif

Juju Leroux Cadena Ring Necklace, $70.00 pink-elf-kimono.jpg

Pink Elf Kimono Dress, $189.00

Pair a silk kimono-style dress with a large gold chain necklace, an oversized clutch, a cinched trench-style jacket and knee high boots for instant Tuleh-like style.  Keep checking with Couture in the City for more fashion week coverage and tips on how you can steal the latest styles.
