Sequins never totally go out of style, and why should they? A simple sequined piece can rock anything from a pair of ancient faded denim jeans to a formal skirt. These days, the best way to wear a sequins is to not do them head to toe. Otherwise you’ll look like you stepped right out of a 1980s prime time soap opera. It’s better to pair a sequined top with other pieces that are plain, or at least plain-ish. This includes sequined shoes, which can look amazing with a cute top and jeans.

Let’s start with these Sequin Skirt Shorts from Topshop. If you have great legs, then this is a terrific look for you this fall. Topshop suggests wearing them with biker boots. They need to be paired with a simple top so as not to have your top half competing with your bottom half for attention. These are made from 97% Viscose, 3% Elastane. $70.00 from Topshop.

If you want your sequins to be more edgy than girlie, try this GUESS by Marciano Sequin Tank in Cloud Grey. Not only is it posh, but it’s also comfortable. Black skinny jeans and a pair of great looking platform heels would go great with this. 94% rayon, 6% spandex, $68.00 from marciano.com

This all-over sequined dress is a real stunner. Strapless, with sequins that shimmer in a waterfall inspired design. This is a mini-dress length that works on its own, or with leggings. $98.00 from bebe.com.

It may have “boy” in its name, but this boyfriend vest will make you look very feminine. This is a shimmery, sequined take on the classic vest, with notched lapels, hook closure, and all-over sequins. $88.00 from express.com.

Or if it’s cooler outside, you could wear this black sequined blazer by Rachel Rachel Roy. Talk about versatile! $199.00 from Macys.com.

Crystals, jewels, metals: they all have a place in this fall’s wardrobe. Embellishment is a big trend right now, with designers taking their inspiration from the glittering splendor of chandeliers.

Here is a great example of super-casual dressed up.. This scoop neck tank from Torn by Ronny Kobo is embellished with faux pearls, rhinestones, and beads at the arm openings and along the racer back. With 1 inch straps, this 100% cotton jersey top measures 26 inches long from the shoulder. $150.00 from Shopbop.com

Or how about a pleated dress with a crystal embellished neckline? It is belted and lined at the bodice with a zipper and tie at the back. Measures approximately 34 inches from shoulder to hem. Available in Navy/Gray or Olive/Taupe $42.00 from Forever21.com.

Antique silver metal leaf sequins adorn this long sleeved black shrug from Topshop, who declares that embellishment is key this season. Made of 100% viscose, this shrug can go with anything from a little black dress to your favorite jeans. $135.00 from Topshop.com.

The Summer in the City Sequin Skirt in white is beaded chiffon with a full lining. The bottom hem is accentuated with contrast lining. It measures 16 inches for the size 6. $108.00 from Freepeople.com.
