Over the weekend, iPad hysteria gripped the nation at large, including famous people wanting to get their hands on this historic piece of electronic gadgetry.
At WonderCon in San Francisco Saturday, actor Jake Gyllenhaal was seen promoting his new movie, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based on a video game of the same name. But after a little bit of the standard, “Blah, blah, blah, go see this movie,” Gyllenhaal showed off something he was really enthused about: his new iPad. The smile on his face in the photos with the new device told the whole story. Celebrities are just as smitten with their iPads as the rest of the world.
Other celebrities thrilled at getting (or bummed at not getting) an iPad include Alyssa Milano, who ordered three, according to Twitter. However, you’re only allowed to pre-order two, so her order was cancelled.
David Letterman (who got one early) has used one on his show to read his Top 10 list, while guest Sam Worthington (Clash of the Titans) used it as well – as a coaster.
Though early predictions suggested that Apple might sell 300,000 of the units on their debut weekend, they actually sold more like 700,000, even with most Apple stores being closed Sunday for Easter.
