We’re seeing several versions of the crinkle trench coat this spring, including designs by Banana Republic, Lane Bryant, and an Escada crinkle trench that actress Halle Berry is especially fond of. The reason people love this look is that it’s very lightweight, so you can wear it well into spring (and summer in some places), plus it lacks bulk, so it’s very slimming as well.
Halle Berry has worn hers casual, accented with a scarf, or dressy, over a “date night” dress. Crinkle trenches are more of a casual look, and they look terrific with jeans and work slacks. When you choose a crinkle trench, be sure the sleeves are the correct length, and that you get a close, but not tight fit. You should have no trouble getting it on over a light sweater, but you don’t want a crinkle trench to fit too generously, or the look will be sloppy.
The reason this look is new and fresh is that the shiny texture draws attention without being formal. Plus it accomplishes the minor miracle of being a double-breasted coat that looks good on non-super-skinny figures too.
What do you think? Would you wear this trend?
