Even though he just presented his fifth collection, there are still a few fashion editors out there who are ready to write Christian Sirano off as a flash in the pan due to his reality show (Project Runway) provenance. But the fact is, he consistently has large, enthusiastic crowds at his shows that include luminaries like Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken Downing, Saks Fifth Avenue president Ron Frasch, The New York Times’ Cathy Horyn, and celebrities like Alan Cumming and Katrina Bowden.
Though the 24-year-old doesn’t break a lot of new ground with his creations (with the exception of his amazing finale gowns featuring enormous clouds of raw-edged tulle ruffles), that may be part of what makes him so appealing to so many people. When it comes down to it, most women want pretty clothes, and Christian Sirano delivers. Here are some favorites from the collection:
A white, belted, shirt-waist halter blouse atop straight, but not skinny white slacks looked fantastic accented with simple, oversized sunglasses and platform sandals. It’s the kind of outfit you might dream of wearing on a vacation in Capri.
Siriano’s bronze, strapless long gown with a fitted bodice and full (but not poufy) skirt, topped with a slightly darker, swingy jacket, is the kind of classic evening wear that you don’t want to wait for next spring to wear. It would actually be perfect for this autumn’s fancy parties.
A fitted, double breasted, short sleeved suit with square shoulders and short sleeves, in a slightly “tribal” print looks ultra-feminine with its belted waist and pencil skirt. The colors would work year-round, as long as the weather was cooperative.
Finally, a ruffled, spaghetti-strapped top over flowing black trousers made an outfit that could work in numerous situations, from a dressy work party to a date with your sweetheart. And the look is classic enough to carry over, and guaranteed to turn into a coveted vintage look in the future!
