Demi Moore vs. Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin

1 Comment 16 June 2010

The past few seasons have seen a resurgence of the draped “goddess” style dress. It flatters many figure types, from slim and straight to full and curvaceous. Lanvin did a one-arm gown for 2010 that is gorgeous, sexy, and that looks like you could actually walk and sit comfortably in it, which you can’t say for all the styles you see on the red carpet!

Two big stars have worn this gown recently. Last October, Demi Moore wore a silver-gray version at the Freedom Awards, and recently at a Moscow fundraiser, Jennifer Lopez wore the gown in a dark burgundy color. It was a great choice for both, and the dark burgundy looked gorgeous with Lopez’ coloring.

In addition to the draping, the other big trend that this gown took in was the one-shoulder look. You see this look in lots of dresses and tops in recent seasons, from the formal to the casual. One-shoulder tops are a terrific change from the plain tee or tank and are a great way to add interest to a simple outfit with shorts or jeans and sandals this summer.

It will most likely carry through Fall as well, perhaps in richer colors to go with a more autumnal color palette for those days when the calendar says “Fall,” but the weather says “Indian Summer.” Some of the one-shoulder designs are sleek and fitted, while you’ll also find them with draping reminiscent of the Lanvin piece as well as softly draped, unfussy ruffles.

So who wore it better, Demi or Jennifer? That’s a tough call, but I’d give the slight edge to Ms. Moore, for proving once again that you can be within a few years of 50 and still knock ‘em dead with your sexy, beautiful looks!
