Diane Von Furstenberg has a new creative director, Yvan Mispelaere, and by the reaction to her Spring 2011 Ready to Wear Collection, he’s a keeper. Both draping and tailoring were strong in the collection, which featured bold prints and solids, mostly in lightweight silks. Solid colors included bright corals and pale greens, and most of the dresses were easy-going slip types.
A white, no-collar blouse over a slim gray skirt topped with a long, slouchy bronze jacket could be an easy go-to outfit for work next spring. In super light weight fabrics, the layers look professional, yet cool.
A sleeveless, short dress with plunging neckline in a large print that manages to be both bold and subtle is the kind of dress you dream about for great summer parties, preferably on a beach in the south of France. This dress would go gorgeous with a summer tan!
Finally, a shorts and blouse combo in a swirly black, white, and gray print might make you think that Ms. Von Furstenberg was channeling the great Emilio Pucci. It also slim enough to avoid adding bulk, yet drapey enough to be forgiving and comfortable on a warm day. In other words, perfect.
