Edmonton Oilers center Mike Comrie, 29 recently asked 22-year-old Disney Teenybopper Hilary Duff to marry him in Hawaii last week, reportedly getting down on one knee on their hotel balcony.
The two have been dating for two years, and they plan to wed in 2011. Early on in their relationship, Duff reported that she read Hockey for Dummies so as to better understand the stick-wielding Comrie.
One of those staples of celebrity journalism known as “a source” told E! that the ring he bought for Duff cost (put pinkie to corner of mouth Austin-Powers style) one million dollars. The only descriptions available of the ring are “14-karat” and “princess cut.”
The pair won’t exactly be living like paupers either. The source says that they are about to buy a pad in Beverly Hills for $10 million. In case you’re wondering how a hockey player and a cable television star can afford to toss a million here, and ten million there, it’s most likely because Comrie is an heir to a Canadian retail home furniture empire called The Brick. One of his early gifts to Duff in 2007 was a Mercedes that cost $100,000. It is unclear whether everything else he buys costs an even multiple of 10.
