The look is one part hot teacher, one part naughty school girl with a dash of Liv Tyler/Alecia Silverstone circa. 1990’s sex appeal: it’s Prep School chic and it’s totally haute. Celebs are hopping on the bandwagon of this not-so prim and proper style, that’s as easy to pull together as looking in your closet.

Wanna go to prep school? Then here’s how to wear these tailored looks and what you need:

1) White button up: Every girl needs a white button up shirt in your wardrobe. Whether your a workin’ gal or a stay at home mom, this is a staple you are sure to have.

Tip: DON’T borrow one from your boyfriend/husband/best guy friend. Get one that is tailored to your shape for a feminine look. Steal Hayden’s look for less with this top from Old Navy:

Women’s Ruffle Placket Top, $12.50

2) Pencil Skirt: This creates an hourglass silhouette and gives you instant 40’s glamour, while remaining tasteful and ladylike. Black, charcoal grey and horehound plaids are best, but if you want to give your prep school look a little boost, then try this pencil skirt from Kahri:

Kahri Lace Pocket Pencil Skirt, $150

3) Ladylike Accessories: A black tailored trench, classic black pumps and an oversized black tote completes this look. Keep jewelry, hair and makeup to a minimum (this look works great with a tidy ponytail), but feel free to add your own touch to this style with accessories as well.

The prep-school look is probably already hiding in your closet somewhere, it’s just up to you to put it together. Maybe you only need a few new pieces to update this look, which is great for work, shopping, and of course, school.
