Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor was laid to rest yesterday in a private burial at Forest Lawns Memorial Park. She died Wednesday of heart failure. Not only was Taylor a screen icon of the glory days of Hollywood, she was an icon in the fashion industry too, consistently upstaging much younger actresses with her beauty and style until well into old age.
Taylor, 79, was laid to rest close to one of her best friends, the late Michael Jackson. Taylor was a magnet for celebrity news and gossip for many years, particularly during her relationship with Richard Burton, whose on- and off-screen chemistry with Taylor scandalized the world in the 1960s. Taylor was one of the first celebrities to draw attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, at a time when the disease was considered politically untouchable.
