Sound Bites
Katie Holmes
-On family life: “In my own life, my whole world really revolves around family. I do what I need to do, but it’s like, ‘How is everybody else doing?’ And it’s wonderful for me as an actress to put some of that into a character.”
-On life: as a working mom on the Broadway set of All My Sons: “Suri would sit in my lap in the makeup chair. She’d hand the wig lady the bobby pins.“
-On fashion: “I love Alaia, for sure. Stella McCartney. I like Ralph Lauren because I feel like it’s very American, and I’m pretty all-American, from Ohio. Isabel Marant and a new designer, Sari Gueron.
-On the genre of film she loves most: “It can be any genre. I even like vampire movies – they just have to be well done. I want to believe in the characters. The minute it starts to feel not real, I’m not interested.”
Emily Blunt
-On adjusting to Hollywood life since moving from the UK: “I feel the fear of the business creep under my skin in L.A. in a way that it doesn’t in England. It’s funny – I feel like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, unless you’re in Hollywood! It’s shameful how you have to look a certain way. Women are simply not allowed to grow old gracefully. That’s why I love playing character parts, because I’m not pigeonholed into trying to remain young forever to play the ingénue or romantic lead.”
Julianne Moore
-On types of characters she is drawn to: “I think my connection to acting has been through reading. I’m interested in scripts. People ask me, “What role are you dying to play?” It’s really, What story do I want to be in?”
Renee Zellweger
-On actresses from earlier eras that have influenced her: “For Leatherheads, I was thinking of Katharine Hepburn, the way she leaned forward with her shoulders back, speaking in her lower register the whole time. I like her confidence, her intelligence, her sense of entitlement. When I was making Chicago, I couldn’t stop watching the Marilyn [Monroe] videos. Not so much because of the sex kitten thing; it was more her vulnerability. That was a huge part of the Roxie character. But it’s not about emulating; it’s about a feeling.”
-On whether a successful movie career requires sacrificing your personal life: “A friend of mine couldn’t decide between moving to New York or staying in L.A., and another friend said, “Do Everything!” I thought, That’s it, do everything.”
Zoe Saldana
-On being known as a beautiful Hollywood actress: “I’m sorry, but it’s sexy to know that guys find you attractive. It’s empowering.”

Lindsay Lohan
It’s Paris fashion week, and so far one of the biggest news items has little to do with fashion and much to do with celebrity. Lindsay Lohan, who was hired as an “artistic adviser” for Italian design house Emanuel Ungaro, presented her first collection at the Louvre, to the chagrin of style conoisseurs and struggling designers everywhere.
Largely seen as a publicity stunt for Ungaro – a brand that is rapidly fading into the background – Lohan’s collection was panned for being, well, tacky, with plenty of orange and pink, ruched orange slacks, and black, heart-shaped pasties. Guilty by association is Estrella Archs, who has designed for Prada, Christian Lacroix, Emilio Pucci, and Nina Ricci.
By way of explanation, president of Ungaro, Mounir Moufarrige, has said, “Twenty-first century muses are extroverts whose personal style and experience gives them strong creative and artistic focus.”
Even among the notoriously tough fashion crowd, fangs were out for this collection. It was only one month ago that Emanuel Ungar “hired” Lohan as as artistic adviser. Many in the fashion industry consider it a huge insult to anyone who had ever really worked in design or graduated from design school.
Then again, the fashion industry has in recent years emphasized flashy, disposable fashion over forward thinking and style. Lohan’s collection for Ungaro was no exception, with plenty of tight micro-mini dresses and emphasis on hearts as a design element. It appeared as a sequin pattern on one jacket and as cutouts on another. But it was the heart shaped pasties that were most universally panned, perhaps as a symbol of a fashion house in a desperate bid for attention from a house that has been fading from view since its founder retired back in 2004.

Breast Cancer Ribbon Bracelet by Lisa for Loft - $24.50
Designer Lisa Salzer of Lulu Frost has designed a limited-edition bracelet available at LOFT stores during October. Five dollars from the sale of each bracelet benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This bracelet is designed with the vintage charm Salzer is known for, with multiple brass chains, one of which is wrapped with a silk fuchsia ribbon that ends in a bow. It is part of a capsule collection of jewelry designed by Salzer exclusively for LOFT – both in LOFT stores nationwide and online at www.LOFTonline.com.
Whether you wear it alone or layered with other jewelry for added drama, the bracelet offers an alternative to the conventional “think pink” ribbon. At $24.50, the bracelet is in keeping with LOFT’s spirit of to-the-minute style at affordable prices.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a charity dedicated to providing funding for research at medical centers worldwide and increasing public awareness of good breast health. Ann Taylor Stores Corporation has supported this Foundation since 2006 and has already raised more than $2.25 million for the charity.

The bracelet will be available in LOFT stores nationwide as well as LOFTonline.com from October 1 – 31, offering shoppers another compelling reason to Live.Love.LOFT.

The color of your hair and eyes, or whether you have long legs or not all comes down to your genes. So while there’s little we can do to change physical appearance short of drastic plastic surgery, we use clothing to highlight our best features (and to hide the not so good ones). That’s where Genetic Denim comes in. Unlike some companies that create cookie cutter styles that may not look good on everyone, Genetic Denim has a different perspective. They want to accentuate your body type rather than squishing your body into the same mold. Some of my favorite celebrities have been seen out and about in Genetic Denim! Halle Berry paired a shredded tee with The Shane, a cigarette cut jean while out with her daughter. Mena Suvari was seen at Fashion Week wearing The Davis which is a sexy update of the classic boyfriend silhouette. Other stylish celeb fans include Mary-Kate Olsen, Agyness Deyn, and Jennifer Garner. Found in-stores and online, it’s easy to get your own pair. Just be ready to smile for the camera when you slip these on!

Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar has New Name, Baby

Sarah Michelle Gellar has recently taken her husband’s name and now goes by Sarah Michelle Prinze. She is married to Freddie Prinze Jr. But the couple had even more momentous news when they announced that they recently had their first child. The baby girl, named Charlotte Grace Prinze, was born on Saturday, Sept. 19, and of course, the parents are ecstatic. The two were married in 2002, and have been a couple since meeting in 1997 on the set of the movie I Know what you Did Last Summer.
Prinze managed to remain fit throughout the pregnancy and was seen attending a Pilates class just a day before giving birth to baby Charlotte Grace.
The new baby won’t be all that keep the couple busy. Both have new television series with pilots that debut this fall. Sarah Michelle will be in the new HBO series The Wonderful Maladays, a show about three adult siblings with dysfunctional lives who lost their parents when they were young. Adam Scott will appear in The Wonderful Maladays as Sarah Michelle’s ex.
Freddie will appear in the pilot for a new comedy No Heroics, where he plays a man who meets his new girlfriend, played by Leslie Bibb, at a funeral.

Despite various teleprompter mishaps, the overuse of the Kanye interruption joke, and the Sarah McLachlan-induced sob fest, the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards still managed to be hotter than hot (both literally and figuratively — apparently the weather was beyond sweaty)! While 30 Rock and Madmen took home the night’s biggest prizes (surprise, surprise), everyone was a winner on the red carpet (well, nearly everyone). Blake Lively looked like her typical glamazon self in a gorgeous red gown with a seriously plunging neckline and Kim Kardashian’s dress was so skintight, she reportedly had to be sewn into it (it was worth it)! Even primetime’s funny gals like Alyson Hannigan and Jenna Fischer glammed it up Cinderella-style in dazzling strapless floor-length numbers. Checkout the slideshow at Stylehive’s blog to see how some of TV’s leading ladies rocked the red carpet last night!
