BCBG Max Azria Spring 2010

Posted on 10 September 2009 by Angelique

bcbg-max-azria01

Label BCBG Max Azria debuted its Spring 2010 collection Thursday morning, and it featured draped jersey and bright, body conscious dresses in the label’s signature “sexy, but not trying too hard” vibe. The billowy white crepe dress was a more formal version of many of the gorgeous white short dresses that were included in the Max Azria 2010 Resort collection. Those looked like the kind of tennis dresses a Greek goddess would wear.

The Spring 2010 collection featured bright colors and graceful draping, something that this label does wonderfully well. Abstract prints had a place in the collection too, as did bright swimming pool blues and fuchsias. BCBG Max Azria featured lovely t-shirt dresses similar to the ones in his Spring 2009 collection, but with asymmetric hems that moved gracefully, and a few super body conscious looks thrown in. Trapunto stitching – a form of quilting, graced some of the seams and shoulders. It is a detail that is seen on some of this fall’s clothes, too. Some of the looks had panels joined together by body hugging gussets.

In a nutshell, it was the quality and beauty you would expect from this designer, who celebrates the feminine form and uses color to soothe the eye and let the person wearing his creations shine rather than be overpowered by them.

Minimalist Gray Dresses for Maximum Impact

Posted on 10 August 2009 by Angelique

greys

Gray is the go to color for the minimalist look this fall. Gray is a neutral that will give you maximum impact when detailed with pleats, draping, gathering and other sculptural elements. We love all of the options for gray dressing this fall. Minimalist sculptural gray dresses and coats work well with the black leggings, tights and super skinny jeans you already own. Black works well, but you can also get daring by partnering gray with primaries such as red, royal blue and yellow. Or go with a monochromatic look with various shades of gray. One of our editors’ favorites is the Marc Jacobs sweatshirt dress. This dress totally reminds us of the Norma Kamali huge shoulder padded dresses of the ’80s! The RM by Roland Mouret coat is a classic that you can wear for many seasons. Mouret is a true artist when it comes to draping and minimalist statement dressing. The coat reminds me of my warmest winter Hussein Chalayan coat from my favorite store, Workshop, in San Francisco. Go ahead and go neutral this fall and stock up on this wardrobe staple.

Will you be buying into the gray trend for fall? Let us know in comments!

Angie Looks ‘Angelic’ in Gerard Darel

Posted on 07 July 2009 by Angelique

image0011

Angelina Jolie was spotted wearing one of her favorite Gerard Darel dresses in Los Angeles yesterday.  This isn’t the first time this stylish mother of six has sported this flowing ‘Angel’ dress – Angie was seen wearing a black version of the tie-waist tiered maxi back in October.  While she wore the dress with spaghetti straps in the autumn, Angie opted for a chocolate brown strapless look yesterday.  Wearing a lavender Gerard Darel top, daughter Zahara seems to be following in her mom’s famous fashion footsteps.

Angelina’s Gerard Darel ‘Angel’ dress is available at select Bloomingdales locations for $548.00
