It would be hard to choose two better colors for bright and cheery winter wear than red and white. Lucky for Canadians, the flag sports these very colors, making it easy to show patriotic spirit and look great all at the same time, as can be seen in this slideshow on iVillage.com. Even though the 2010 Winter Olympic games will be coming to a close in a few days, Vancouver continues showing its national pride, with Canadians everywhere showing their support for their Olympians in their fashion choices.
And those who aren’t quite ready to have a maple leaf as part of their style statement still manage to show their support beautifully, whether with a simple hair accessory, a jacquard neck scarf, or a perfectly wonderful bright red DKNY trench coat that I’m seriously starting to covet.
Humans aren’t the only ones getting in on the action, however. One would be hard pressed to find a cuter supporter of the Canadian Olympic ice hockey team than an adorable pug wearing the canine version of a hockey jersey.
You can add fun fashion to the long list of reasons why Vancouver was recently selected as the best city in the world to live in. Canada’s Olympians surely know this. No matter the medal count, the pride of Canada is undiminished.
Wednesday’s showing of the 3.1 Phillip Lim line for Fall 2010 made for several instances of thinking, “Ooh! I love that! What is it?” While there was some hint of disco-era glam, Lim also playfully added in some backlash to go with it. Yes, there were sequins, but they were tempered with chiffon overlayers. Glam was consistently paired with smart-looking partners, like thick, warm capes and tall boots.
While there was almost a sweetness or innocence in many pieces, there were one or two – a deep purple sequined and black wrap dress comes to mind – that were nothing short of drop-dead gorgeous. And Lim didn’t stick as closely to the gray-black-beige color palette as a lot of other designers did. In addition to the levity imparted by the sequins, there were also touches of pink, gold, blue, and periwinkle. Thank you, Mr. Lim. Fall 2010 suddenly looks a little brighter!

Pairing tights and socks with sandals… are you crazy? Maybe I am, but designers have been sending this look down the runways for seasons now and it’s a great way to get out of a winter boot rut! Besides, black opaques go from basic to killer when worn with seriously aggressive platforms and mini skirt. Looking to make your sandals look even more cozy? Try textured tights, like a fine ribbed wool pair. For evening, experiment with semi-sheer tights or ones with a slight pattern like swiss dots. Stay out of granny territory by avoiding anything too sheer or nude. Whatever you choose, keep the shoes and the tights in the same color family to create the illusion of one long line. Whether it’s all blacks or all electric blue is up too you! Once the weather starts to turn a bit milder, try swapping out tights for socks. Burberry Prorsum and Rochas showed models wearing scrunched down socks with sandals. Keep the socks and the shoes a nude or beige color to keep from shortening your leg too much. Now that you’ve got the legwear down, you can’t just throw on any old sandal. Opt for tall, chunky heeled or platform sandals; you’ll need them to balance out the heft of the tights. Anything too strappy and delicate will be overwhelmed.
Kate Moss sits down with Women’s Wear Daily’s Brid Costello to discuss her new scent Vintage, which was introduced in Europe earlier this month. Stephen Mormoris, svp of global marketing at Coty said they may look into having Moss create a special color cosmetics collections for its Rimmel brand, which Moss also fronts. On the fragranceąs genesis her love for vintage fashion has much more humble origins. I couldn’t really afford designer clothes when I was young, so I just went to the secondhand shops.
It wasnąt called vintage then, It was called secondhand when I was 15. She also opens up about how she relaxes, her inspirations and how to multitask.
On defining beauty:
It sounds really corny, but I think that if you’re beautiful inside, it shows on the outside for sure. You can be a pretty face, but if your not a nice person it just doesn’t work. I’m not traditionally a beauty, but apparently people think I’m all right. If you’re a nice person, it definitely helps.
On if she has a motto:
There are loads. There’s Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.˛
On the secrets to multitasking:
I think women are really good at multitasking. Men just cannot do it. My boyfriend cannot talk on the phone and [answer] if I ask him a question or get dressed at the same time. I can do all of that talk on the phone, answer a question, get dressed and put my makeup on all at the same time. Women just do, don’t they? I think it’s something to do with babies. When
you have a child, you have to be able to multi task.
