Joan Jett, executive producer of film The Runaways starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, was a regular on the set of the movie, as was bandmate Cherie Currie, (Fanning). Jett and Stewart struck up a friendship, and Stewart told the LA Times that she “would have felt like such a fraud” had she played the part of Joan Jett without Jett’s input. As for Currie, she was moved to tears when she saw Fanning’s dead-on version of the song “Cherry Bomb.”
Director Floria Sigismondi, who has directed music videos for Christina Aguilera and Marilyn Manson did things a little differently with The Runaways, keeping everything gritty and real, as opposed to her more slick, stylized turns with music videos. She insisted that the makeup artists not cover pimples and that the stylists produce real “bedhead” looks. With the help of costume designer Carol Beadle, the movie nails the 70s look without turning it into a caricature.
There were 150 costume changes in the movie, and so Beadle and her crew had to scour every vintage and costume store in LA looking for exactly the right pieces to evoke the late 1970s. One treasured item was the belt buckle that Fanning got to wear that belongs to the real Cherie Currie. But Fanning kept a pair of silver platform boots that she’s saving for just the right occasion.

Sure, Charlize Theron gained thirty pounds and had bad skin when she played a serial killer. And Robert DeNiro is known for altering his physical persona so as to disappear into a movie role. But Kristen Stewart, best known for her lead roles as Bella in the Twilight series of movies has perhaps topped them all with her preparation to play 80s rocker Joan Jett in The Runaways.
In other words, it’s not a wig: she got a mullet.
That’s dedication.
The Runaways is about Jett’s band before her breakout hits with The Blackhearts in the early 80s. The Runaways had a brief flash of fame in the 70s, but it was a stormy tale. Dakota Fanning actually plays the lead, Cherie Currie, and the real Jett and Currie cooperated with the film’s production, so it’s possible that Stewart’s brave hairstyling nightmare is in tribute to Jett’s willingness to help the film along.
The great thing about The Runaways, which premiered this week at the Sundance Film Festival, is that it’s something new. It’s the masculine, powerful side of female teen libido, where refreshingly, these girls are not playing the usual stereotypes: the stripper with the heart of gold, the unwed young mother, or the teen siren who pays dearly for the unforgiveable sin of being hot. For that alone it’s worth seeing.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
The cast of the upcoming New Moon flick is busy on a press junket, and E! television was able to ask her a question burning in everyone’s mind: Would she work with her castmates – particularly Robert Pattinson – again outside the Twilight film franchise?
The answer: Yes. “Literally…every single one of them,” she told E!
While there are fans complaining of overexposure on the part of the stars of the Twilight films, there is no denying that Stewart is different from the typical Hollywood starlet, with her dark fashion sense and understated looks. Girlfriend even had her hair cut in an 80’s mullet to play Joan Jett in a recent movie, and she’s bravely growing it out as a nation watches. At the press conference where E! caught up with Stewart, she was wearing a black blazer with a quirky, dark tee underneath – a look that is becoming a signature for her.
Meanwhile, the countdown to the November 20 premiere of New Moon has already begun, with cast scattered around the globe attending red carpet events. There’s no doubt that the American premiere will be a huge event, and the movie itself is expected to break box office records.

Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
Twilight fans continue to celebrate the awesomeness of their favorite film after the movie took home several awards Sunday night at the Spike TV Scream Awards 2009. This awards show is dedicated to horror, fantasy, and science fiction feature films. The first Spike TV Scream Awards were in 2006.
The big winners included mega hits Twilight and Transformers 2. Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob in the Twilight series picked up a Scream Award for “Breakout Male Performance.” He also picked up the trophies that were awarded to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson who didn’t attend the ceremony. Stewart and Pattinson won Best Fantasy Actors. Lautner introduced some much anticipated New Moon footage to satisfy those fans who can’t wait for the film to come out in November.
The frighteningly sexy Megan Fox won the award for Best Sci-Fi Actress and delivered a surprisingly sweet acceptance speech that seemed to be designed to put her back in the good graces of her Transformers director Michael Bay. “I am completely grateful to everyone involved with this franchise,” she said, referring to the Transformers movies.
Best Horror Movie went to Drag Me to Hell, while Twilight won Best Fantasy Movie. Best Comic Book Movie went to Watchmen. True Blood won the award for Best Television Show.

Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist, Adir Abergel styled for the Teen Choice Awards. Adir was inspired by 60’s Rock and Roll pompadour with a spiky ponytail.
Inspiration:
60’s Rock and Roll pompadour with a spiky ponytail.
How To Get The Look:
Adir first started out by applying the FEKKAI COIFF™ Nonchalant Piecing & Foaming Wax to the palm his hands and then added the FEKKAI COIFF™ Extra Control Styling Gel for extra texture and shine. He applied this to her damp hair until it was full saturated.
To get the right texture with short layered haircut like Kristen’s, you must apply enough products until you get it to look right and feels right. It is important to fully saturate the hair with product.
Once the product was in the hair he took a blow-drier and hand dried into his desired style, directing all the hair with his fingers back to the nape of her neck.
To finish the look, he took the back of the hair and pulled it into a twisted ponytail letting the ends out and then spraying the front with the FEKKAI Sheer Hold Hairspray. Make sure to leave random pieces out for a more chill vibe.

Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan in the movie Twilight and upcoming New Moon, is currently filming Runaways, in which she plays late 70s-early 80s rocker Joan Jett. The Runaways was the name of Jett’s band in the late 1970s before she did some solo work and started Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Stewart goes all out in her portrayal of Jett, rocking the leather jacket, leather pants, and most significant of all, a mullet haircut. Now that’s dedication.
Not that the young actress will have much time to think about her hair. She is expected to return within a few days to filming the third installment in the Twilight saga, which is titled Eclipse. And as soon as Eclipse finishes shooting in October, New Moon will be just about ready to premiere, which means she’ll be on the road promoting it.
She also spent some time last week at San Diego’s Comic Con convention answering questions about her role in the Twilight movies. She is constantly asked whether she and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson are together as a couple, and she says no. Speaking with Britain’s Top of the Pops, Stewart said, “No. Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close. I’ve acquired a good buddy and that’s a big deal, but I haven’t left my boyfriend for Robert Pattinson.”

Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart, star of the recent movie Twilight and the upcoming sequel New Moon (scheduled for release November 20, 2009) finally addressed the persistent question about the nature of her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson. This issue is also of concern to Stewart’s boyfriend Michael Angarano. A source close to Stewart recently told The National Enquirer that Stewart loves Pattinson “as a friend.” While acknowledging her co-star’s hotness, and that it was easy for her to build onscreen chemistry with him, she flatly denies that anything more is going on.
The two recently accepted the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for their lip-locking in the movie Twilight, teasing the audience by pretending to get ready to kiss on stage, but then stopping short of doing so. Their “non-kiss” only fueled the rumors of their relationship being more than professional as did speculation on why Stewart was nervous enough onstage to drop her Golden Popcorn Award.
Meanwhile, in her professional life, Stewart has dyed her hair black and was recently seen arriving at a studio in north Hollywood. She is currently filming a new movie called The Runaways, which co-stars Dakota Fanning.
New Moon is one of the most hotly anticipated movies of the year, at least among the high school to college demographic.
