All the big celebrity news outlets are saying that the two broke up, but aren’t giving any more details because, they say, they have no further details at this point. The couple met in 2007 on the set of the movie Rendition, and it wasn’t long afterwards that the two were seen canoodling off screen. By the summer of 2008, there wasn’t much doubt about whether the two were together. They were seen on an extended summer holiday in Paris, then out for a stroll in Marrakech the next month to check out the bazaar shopping.
Despite reports that 33-year-old Witherspoon and 28-year-old Gyllenhaal have split up, their reps say that it isn’t true, which is the opposite of what a “source close to the couple” says. “They are still together” was the statement that came from reps Nanci Ryder and Carrie Byalick.
Regardless of the state of their togetherness romantically, they are definitely separated geographically. Witherspoon is in London to make an address to the House of Commons about a domestic violence charity initiative that Witherspoon represents along with cosmetic giant Avon. Gyllenhaal is busy shooting a movie titled Love and Other Drugs in Pittsburgh.

Actress Reese Witherspoon recently took her children to view her upcoming 3D computer animated movie Aliens vs. Monsters. When asked what they thought the message of the movie was, nine-year-old Ava responded that it was about living up to your true potential. Taking a more practical view, Deacon, age 5, said the message was that it was important to kill octopus aliens when they invade your planet. In the movie, Witherspoon is the voice of Susan, a woman who grows to 42 ft. 11 inches tall and helps save the planet from aliens.
Also gracing the April cover of Elle magazine, Witherspoon opens up in a feature about many things, including her “humiliating and isolating” divorce from Actor Ryan Phillippe, the father of Ava and Deacon.
Asked about her rumored “Type A” personality, she told the magazine, “I don’t think I’m a control freak … I’ve been portrayed as a very, like, closed-off or uptight person. I’m very open.”
Aliens vs. Monsters is scheduled for release in the U.S. on March 27, 2009, and for U.K. release on April 3. The movie features voices of Paul Rudd, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Stephen Colbert, and Kiefer Sutherland in addition to Witherspoon.
