Punch It Up with the Perfect Poncho

Posted on 06 November 2009 by Angelique

knit-ponchos

Ponchos are making an appearance again this fall in the form of chunky knits. Think handmade, warm and cozy. Many are a fusion of sweater and poncho that button up the front, making them easier to layer. You’ll see hoods, pockets and zippers as added features as well. Look for all wool styles made with thick yarns and lots of texture in the knitted design. Or try a lighter poncho on for size; it is more like a wrap and much more fluid than chunkier styles. Go for a neutral like gray or brown that can be paired with a variety of items in your wardrobe.

On the chunkier side, from Haute Hippie is the Chunky Wool Poncho (top left, $495.00 at Nordstrom.com) with classic overtones and a cable-knit design. It has a full zip-front closure, pockets to keep your hands warm and a slouchy hood at the back. From Stella McCartney is a pricey and luxe Zip-Front Boucle Poncho (top right, $1,685 at Neiman Marcus) with oversized buttons button as an accent on the cape sleeves. The poncho is an Alpaca/linen/polyamide/wool blend and made in Italy. Helmut Lang has also done a version, all in a minimalist style of course! Helmut Lang Knit Poncho (bottom right, $260 at Saks.com) is an alpaca/merino/polyamide blend and is super soft as well as warm. This poncho also features a generous hood. From Elizabeth and James is the Olivia Poncho, (bottom left, $545 at Shopbop.com) made of moleskin this is the perfect piece for layering. Pair with a cozy cashmere turtleneck and jeans for a luxe weekend casual look.

Rocker Inspired Fur Vests

Posted on 01 October 2009 by Angelique

fur_vest

Fur vests are a functional and fun accessory for fall. A fur vest, real or faux, can add a layer of luxurious warmth. This has been one of my ‘uniforms’ for cool weather dressing, and this year I’ll be pairing my faux fur vest with black skinny jeans and my black cashmere Stella McCartney sweaters. There are many shades and styles of fur vest, many inspired by the glam rocker trend. Some are long and can be belted. Others are shorter and zip or buckle up the front. Look for embellished and beaded fur vests as well.

From 3.1 Phillip Lim, this black dyed lamb fur vest (top left, $1,500.00 at NeimanMarcus.com) is a gorgeous splurge. Made in Italy the v-neck vest is embellished with rhinestones and takes this whole fur vest trend to a new level of luxe wintertime style. The asymmetric and artfully crafted knitted lamb fur vest from Karl Donoghue (top right, $1275 at Intermix.com) is knit with individual fluffy curls of lamb fur. The wide folded collar can be left open or folded up and buttoned to keep you warm and cozy during the chilliest of days. Gryphon’s “Rocker Vest” (lower right, $725.00 at Shopbop.com) is made of faux fur, has an open front and is cut to fall above the waist. Accentuated at the neckline with metal beads, this vest makes a nice contrast to an all black outfit or simple black t-shirt. Inside this vest you’ll find striped lining. Reasonably priced at $198, French Connection’s “Fast Big Foot” Faux Fur Vest, from Bloomingales.com gets you the most faux fur for your dollar. Long with an open placket this lined vest looks great worn open or belted. Pair with a simple tee, dark sweater or black leggings and platform booties.

Your bridesmaids will love you when you choose a dress that they may actually wear again, and this one from Nicole Miller fits the bill:

Stella McCartney for LeSportsac Check-In Case, $285.00

Stella McCartney - Silk Boatneck Off Shoulder Dress - $1,295.00

This beautiful and elegant dress has a very wide boat neck that extends into open sleeves intersected with metal button and tab closures all the way down to the cuffs. The body is loose and straight, thanks to the dolman style. A (detachable) slim velvet sash in a lightly deeper shade of orange allows you to tie as desired. In a lovely silk and wool blend with a bit of stretch. In a rich coral orange.

Today’s Couture - London Designer Stella McCartney

Posted on 23 May 2008 by Jacqueline H

Stella McCartney rocks. With everything under her belt, this innovative designer went from local London hype to an international name.

Stella McCartney

The Stella MCartney line has an array of collections. From beauty products, womens fashions, lingerie, handbags, shoes, and accessories. She even has a sports line for international sports icon - Adidas. Her world is full of creativity and blossoms at every corner. But I guess creativity runs in the family - with a father who started the biggest band in history ‘The Beatles’ - Sir Paul McCartney.

Her clothes are fresh, with clean simple designs. Her fabrics are smooth and soft, highlighted with colors that accent the shape of the clothes.

Here are a few of my other favorites from the Stella McCartney Collection.

Young, hip, and chic. This very sporty look is clearly clever in design and very beautiful.

The Velvet collection is beautiful with amethyst glass. And with scents of amber and rose.

With a great design house under Gucci, and a superb fashionable future. Stella we want you to contine to rock on.
